Well Richard I have to agree with you, if a company cannot spot a potential customer then they don't deserve your custom, I would personally recommend Freedeom2Surf , they respnoded very quickly to my enquiry about their services:
Hi John,

Thanks for your email.

Your speed would increase with the ADSL2+ technology, so I would expect you could see speeds of up to 12Mbit with that result, as it is dependant on the quality and length of your line. However online checkers are not 100% accurate and we will do a physical test once you have placed an order.

We do offer an uncapped service for £24.99 that is connected to the fastest speed available on your line, please see our website for further details of the Connect Plus package at <www.f2s.net>.

With reference to your enquiry, if you already have ADSL with another service provider then it maybe possible to migrate your service to freedom2surf if the losing ISP agrees to this transfer.

You can migrate to freedom2surf for FREE if your current ISP supports outbound migration. If you already have ADSL with another ISP then instead of fully terminating your ADSL connection you can migrate the service to us so that you experience very little downtime.

There are several conditions that dictate whether a Migration order can go ahead. They are as follows:

1. We currently use two types of networks to provision ADSL, these are BT IPStream and Datastream. If your service is provided by an ISP that uses either of these networks then we can migrate your service as long as your ISP issues you with a valid MAC Code.

If you are unsure of the type of ADSL service supplied on your line then continue to place your order and we will test the line to check if migration is possible. If it is not then we will notify you and cancel your order without charge.

2. We only provision `Wires Only` Services as opposed to `Engineer Installed` Services i.e. we do not support the ADSL Service beyond the BT Master Socket or Service Specific Front Plate. All equipment/software, telephone line extensions etc. is your responsibility. If you have an `Engineer Installed` Service and wish to migrate to f2s then we will process the migration but we will modify your service during the migration process so that it becomes a `Wires Only` Service. Any equipment that was originally installed by a BT Engineer will have to be returned to BT on their request. N.B. the Service Specific Front Plate will remain (if installed when the original service was provided) and you will only be able to use your ADSL service from this point, you will not require a microfilter either as these are inbuilt into the SSFP.

3. Migrations for uncapped (Pure IP) or business products will be placed straight on to the product submitted with your order. If you have ordered a product with a speed that your line cannot support, your migration order will fail and you will need to re-order a new product and supply us with a new MAC number.

4. If you have ordered a Connect product we will automatically migrate you to a 2Mb circuit speed (or 8 Mb if you are in an 8 Mb area). If your line cannot support 2Mb/8Mb then your migration will fail and you will need to apply for a new MAC number from your current service provider.
Once you supply us with that MAC number we will retry at the next best possible speed. If for any reason you would like us to try for a slower speed immediately, please let us know within two working days of receipt of the confirmation email.

5. To migrate you will need to request a MAC number from your current ISP. The MAC number is a unique reference code that is assigned to your ADSL service, if your service provider supports outbound migrations then they will be able to provide you with this code.

It is important that the MAC number is given to us correctly. The format will follow one of the following:

For example (L = letter, N = number):

- BBIP12345678/LLNNL
- FTIP123456789/LLNNL
- BBDS12345678/LLNNL

On placing your order please enter the MAC number, the name of your current ISP and the name/specification of the current service you are using into the relevent fields. Once we receive your order we will migrate your service to our network in approximately 5-10 working days (subject to the conditions above).

6. In some cases it will not be possible to migrate your Service, some ISPs use a different method for provisioning ADSL services which means they use a slightly different network system. If this is the case then even if the product appears the same we will not be able to migrate, and a full termination from your current provider will be necessary before we can commence processing your order.

If you have already placed the order please send this information to broadbandadmin@freedom2surf.net or call them on 0870 242 3758 option 2 then number 1. The office hours are Monday - Friday: 9.30 am - 5.30 pm.

If you do not receive an email or telephone call within 3 days of confirming your MAC number to us or you lose your ADSL connection in the interim of us processing your order then please call us so we may check that your order is progressing correctly.

Please note that the ADSL router/modem must be to UK specification, supports PPPoA V MUX and is compatible with your operating system.

You may place your order via the website address: www.freedom2surf.net or you may call Sales on 0870 242 3758 option 1 and we will send you a form to complete and return to us.

Best regards

Andy

I have two accounts with PlusNet - Premier, and Plus. At the moment I use Plus the most .
Plus Pros -

Cheap -
Fast - Often getting max speeds for the 2 megabit connection.
Uncapped - I don't really believe in uncapped claims but have been averaging between 20-30 gigabytes/month without complaint - yet?
Acceptable Shaping - TBH I don't really notice it. My torrents come in at 50 kilobytes/second or higher depending on seeds/peers, eDonkey seems about the same as usual ...
Plus Cons - Too good to be true for £14.99 ? How long will it last ?

Premier Pros -

Cheap -
Fast -
Capping - I suppose a higher traffic allowance before PlusNet send you an e-mail ?
Static IP Block - free
Premier Cons -

Slight Shaping - "If you are a typical customer on Broadband Premier there is minimum impact, at worst you will see a small percentage decrease in the speed of file-sharing at peak times. For example, a file that would normally take an hour may take an additional five minutes to complete. In contrast, on Broadband Plus this same file could take several hours, particularly through peak hours."

Before PlusNet I was with Zen and really can't tell the difference in usage or service (always found the staff prompt and helpful). :)

I've been with NDO since goin broadband, though this is still under a year, i have had no problems with the at all. Well, nothing that wasn't my own fault or hardware related..even so they have a top forum, the members of which have been most helpfull.

I feel it's worth noting that i went with NDO after reading about them on this very site.

Good luck choosing. :)

Well I got my AOL speed back and its dropped again tonight - Good old 256kbs :(

They have offered me AOL silver for £15.99 via email again!

I really need to make a decision on which isp to go to.

pcblues, thanks for the referal but Freedom2surf do not offer uncapped unless I want to pay £27.99 - My line wont take 2MB, maybe not even 1MB.

Eclipse never replied to my email, so I am checking through the posts in this thread to try and finalise my choice.

In you original post you said:-

My criteria is:

Price of around £20
Min of 512kbs connection
No low download limits i.e. 3gig or less per month
Good tech support with no premium rate telephone call charges
Email support
Professional service

No mention of uncapped.
If 512 is the minimum speed why cant you get 1meg?

You have changed the Terms and Conditions without telling us.

So how much bandwidth a month do you really require (use)?

Further to my previous post:

I applied for free regrade from 1 to 2meg on Wednesday and this morning, Friday, its happened. Thats what I call service. Thanks F2s.

Hi Richard,

Freedom2Surf's price that you quoted is for a yearly contract, for a monthly it is £24.99.

As for Eclipse, their service is good & probably one of the best at £17.99 uncapped.

cheers

Im suprised nobody has mentioned Zen or Nildram, you should remember that quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten:-they may not be the cheapest but they are two of the very best,I'm with Nildram 2mb,50gb download limit between 8am and midnight, unlimited midnight till 8am(unused peak time quota carried forward to next month!) £25.99/month

Am i right in saying...apart from pure downloadin...2 of my best broadband (NDO) perks, web-cam and gaming are both limited by the 256u/l limit??

Therefore, though my line can handle -alledgedly- 2mb,i would gain nothing and i opted for 512.

Though i do notice a drop when i have alot goin on..or down if you see what i mean?! But i dunt have a rocket propelled pc so i'm happy..for now. :)

Well I'm not so lucky. I first wrote to Freedom2surf over 2 weeks ago and all I got was an automated reply. A week later I wrote to them again and I'm yet to receive a reply to my original email.

I'm very dissapointed with them. I was clear to them in my email that I was looking for a new ISP, after being with AOL for five years, and that their company was one of two I was interested in. I asked them to clarified what "uncapped" meant for them and a few other questions but I'm still waiting for a reply..... not a very good sign to say the least.

I received a great response from freedom2surf so that is a good sign?

I have been with Eclipse for nearly 3 years & in that period I have noticed that some people have had a good experience & some that have not.
That is the way it goes, very rarely do you get 100% backing of an ISP by all it's subscribers.
You just have to try & get a feel for how good an ISP is by reguarly visiting any forum associated with it but even then you could argue that ISP forums will generally have a higher percentage of customers complaining than customers praising.

24mb BROADBAND!!!

hi

if I were you I would sign up on a monthly contract, don't go for a 12 month contract as there are new technologies coming up in the broadband arena. Currently I have come across one service that is advertising 24MB broadband (http://www.domainsrforever.com), but, unfortunately I am locked in for 6 months with my existing provide so I am unable to switch.

thanks
