Which ISP do i pick ??

Hi guys,

Currently i have VM broadband but i'm moving in several weeks to a new property (new build). The house isn't in a cabled street and at present doesn't have FTTC or FTTP. There is also only one LLU operator and that's Orange. 21CN WBC is set for NYE of this year. So it looks like I'm stuck with BTWholesale ADSL max for the time being. The exchange is HATHERN in Leicestershire.

What are people opinions of which ISP i should be using? I don't mind going for a Broadband/Phone dual play package if that's going to work out cheaper/better. As for usage i really need 40gb+ leaning towards unlimited etc. My line length will be approximately 2km i think.

Thanks
Ben

Thanks, contract length isn't to much of an issue as long as it isn't over 12 months.

It's tough if your only choice is a BT platform, although Eclipse Internet and IDNet do have some good deals. Also don't rule out Plusnet and its top 'Extra' (60GB) package, which is a lot better these days and especially so if you take their Traffic Priority add-on for a few extra £ per month. As usual it depends on your needs.

thanks guys !

Martin i'll take a look at your site.

I don't have any experience of Orange ... there are some reviews here, and a forum here.

I think I'd be tempted to go with a BT based product that had decent peak/off-peak limits. I used to be on Xilo Office 40GB peak/ 200GB off-peak(where off-peak is 8PM-8AM week days and all weekend; I found it satisfactory usage wise). :hrmph:

I'm assuming these ISP's get charged by the GB via BT hence the lack of cheapish "unlimited" packages ?

If you look at the Aquiss BT premium packages if family or gaming then they have the peak times as 8am to midnight, unlimited offpeak which is midnight to 8am. Business packages are peak 8am to 8pm offpeak 8pm to 8am which is the unlimited part. Just set large downloads for the offpeak hours.

In the end ive placed an order with Orange as there the only ADSL2+ provider in my exchange. Hopefully things will be fine.

Thanks for the help guys

Well they'll be the only ADSL2+ provider until their LLU network has finished swapping back to BTWholesale's managed platform, which could one day leave you back on ADSL1 in the future. Anyway make sure to pop in a review once you're setup and let us know how they fair.
