Which ISP

Hi there,

Could anybody answer me the question of which ISP is beat to use?

Here is what I am propossing to do I live in an area where only adsl broadband is available but all the hype from the isp's quoting high speed Internet is all dependent on your actual distance from the exchange and other statistics surrounding you so in actual fact for me and the community around me high speed Internet comes in the package of 0.6mbps if your lucky so I have been looking around and found that with all the information I have gathered I can offer my community with a faster broadband through using an office which is closer to the exchange and can receive speeds of upto 50mbps which I can then pump through my servers and then through a wifi connection to my area trouble being that a lot of isp's that I have looked at frown upon this idea in there aup or t&c does anybody know of an ISP that will support me in this way and yes I will be presenting a charge for the use of the service as I say isp's cannot offer any higher speeds due to the distance.

Any suggestions would be grateful
Thanks.

This is a tough one for several reasons. Firstly you're correct in that no ISP will allow you to resell a consumer service directly like that. Likewise you wouldn't want to anyway because the new Digital Economy Act (DEA) makes you legally responsible if anybody using the connection in your name were to abuse it (i.e. unlawful downloads).

BT's FON Wi-Fi sharing service could be used here, although it could be quite complicated to arrange that but you'd need to speak with BT. Otherwise your best bet might just be to propose your idea to the local council and speak with the office broadband supplier to see what can be done.

Sadly with the new laws it's really difficult to "share" connectivity unless you class yourself as an ISP, which is best avoided due to all the extra burdon that would bring.

Thank you Mark where could i get more information on registering as an ISP as i am currently in talks with local government departments centre about getting this off the ground.

I'm not sure if this is something you have to do specifically or of it's merely part of how you identify your business to the appropriate authority. There are a few ISP reps on here that could answer, LeeH from Zen Internet might have a good idea and you can PM him here:
