Been using Vfe 4G for the last 3 or 4 months in a router with a directional antenna. Was getting a solid 4 bars and ~30 to ~45Mbps. A couple of weeks dropped to 2 to 3 bars and ~15Mbps. Did all the usual checks, rebooted. Reset the device - blah, blah, blah. Checked with some others locally who have had similar issues so reasonably sure the issue is not my end.
I tried switching back to the internal antennas (used to get 3 bars on these I think) and now get 1 bar.
Phoned Vodafone who told me that there had been work at the mast but that was not the root cause of the issue. Been on the phone again, basically they are just telling me that it is poor signal in my area and nothing can be done about it.
Bottom line is that you are at the mercy of the ISP and I think with cellular in particular things change such as radio parameters that can leave you with a useless contract. FTTP should be here in April / May so there is an option in the future. In the interim I may have to go back to FWA through Voneus or just limp along for 5 months.
Just pleased that it is a ~£20 a month phone SIM and not a mobile broadband SIM at £50.
