Why is EE upload faster than Three?

Hello folks.

A simple question that i'm trying to wrap my head around. There is a shared three/MBNL mast here and i'm just wondering, why is EE upload so much faster than three? I mean it's not just faster, it's WAAAAY faster. Is it because of the frequencies in use? some sort of traffic shaping ?

ignore the google fibre thing, that's just my phone doing it's thing and does not affect the speed, it's on EE

Certainly for 4G I know the answer, 5G is trickier but still applies because it's non-standalone 5G.

A huge amount of devices, phone, routers, etc will only do upload aggregation when it's on the same band, because it's easy to do radio-wise.
A huge amount of devices only support band 3 upload aggregation.
Now EE has 30-40mhz of bandwith on B3 (dual carrier) available on busy sites, and many devices will use upload carrier aggregation on this band and see very high upload speeds.

3 on the other hand, only has 15mhz of band 3 available for upload. Hardware support for upload aggregation on other bands is rare so most people on 3 will ever only have 15mhz of bandwith for upload speeds.

All though N78 may be available, Signalling data for non-standalone 5G passes through three's LTE network and will bottleneck 5G speeds.

Dont quote me on this but I do believe that EE aggregates the uplink but Three does not.

and Three's network core is heavily congested on 4G.

Their 5G core fares much better but doesn't yet support 5G SA so you're getting the 4G network for uploads.
 
Three can/will/does UL aggregation with 4G+5G carriers, that's why you will see UL speed tests in excess of 100Mbps on Three. They do not do 4G only UL CA, as far as I know, except for some trial sites.
