Wi-Fi 7 anyone?

Certainly not meritez, it's hideous.🤮

I bet you they'll charge something ridiculous for it too, like £1,000+. Pass.. until the prices come down to more affordable levels, but that will take years.

Just upgraded to 6, even with my gig line due to come online in Jan/Feb I doubt i'll see a need to upgrade. The last kit I had (BT whole home kit) was working ok and up to 350mbit no problem, I just hated how I couldn't configure anything on it and there was no 802.11r/k/v etc.

OpenWRT on WiFi 6 should last me for years.

Looks like the base model of TP-Link's Wi-Fi 7 router is going to cost $699.99 in the USA. I guess we'll have to add some VAT and import duty to that, which will probably put it just above £700 on this side of the pond.

Given that the IEEE doesn’t currently expect to have a completed and fully approved Wi-Fi 7 standard ready until around early 2024, then I guess they'll be using the draft standard instead. The usual caveat applies too, which is that Wi-Fi 7 on a router isn't much use until your other devices can support it too.

My cheap WiFi 6 router in AP mode I is happily pushing 800mbps in the real world so you'll likely be fine.

Just adding in the launch event video of TP-Link's WiFi 7 products folks.
(1 hour):)

Not much point until (1) more vendors get on board and we start to get client devices with capable radios/chipsets (2) the standard gets much closer to ratification / there is some semblance of interop. between competing vendors (3) the price drops to 'normal' levels.

[4] someone make an AP that isn't enormous and god awfully hideous to behold. Sorry TP but your industrial design team are rubbish

I'll hold. 😎

Wifi 7 - totally not needed right now.
Still a very happy bunny on wifi 5.

Maybe in a couple of years, looking forward to a cable-less future if they ever manage to beat that.

Yep not too fussed about the speeds as long as everything works reasonably. Having said that I still hate WiFi and only use it where I have to or for the convenience . I rarely use it and even my laptop has a USB-C ethernet adapter. But having said that, now that I can roam around with it and have beamforming and play with it, maybe i'll change my mind.

I had thought to wait, maybe even wait for 6E but £39 for an openwrt capable WiFi 6 one was just too tempting. It's ok. Better than $300 for the Ubiquiti 6E Pro
