Hi
We have our router upstairs in the house - it's a 3G router and has to go where the cable to the antenna (on the roof) comes in.
Though it's only a 2 bed house the floors and walls are very thick, and I don't think the Wi-Fi on the router is that great anyway (it doesn't actually have a little antenna bit like most do) so the signal strength wanders a lot. PC upstairs, ethernet to router = 6Mbps, tablet downstairs - one bar signal on Wi-Fi - might do 2Mbps at best assuming it doesn't drop altogether as it does often.
I can't replace the main router since there aren't many on the market (though I do want to get an HSPA+ router when they start being sold over here as this one's only HPSA so can only manage 7Mbps, but I still can't find one).
So for now I need to repeat that signal round the house. Distance is too far for a cable.
Would it be possible to dig out my old ADSL router, a Netgear one (an 834v3, I think) and set that up to repeat the signal putting it at the bottom of the stairs e.g. the half way point? The main 3G router does have "Repeater Mode" settings but it's been a while since I went near the Netgear and I've never set it up as such before.
