WiFi Calling on TalkMobile with Google Pixel 5

Have an actual Vodafone network eSIM in right now and 5G connects fine on a Pixel 6 Pro, no SA though

I suspect it's isolated to the MVNOs unfortunately
Yeah, the folks over on the Lebara thread are having similar problems. It's ironic really as the new update finally gave Talkmobile and Lebara customers using the Pixel 6 onwards, Wi-Fi Calling, but for whatever reason have removed 5G as an option for "Preferred network type" 🤷‍♂️ I popped an O2 SIM card into the phone and 5G became available again.

I tried explaining this to Talkmobile customer support on the phone but got nowhere with them unfortunately!

Yeah, I've seen all the fanfare about it!

I hope Lebara or Talkmobile VoWiFi is at least better than Vodafone as a consolation prize, can't set it to WiFi preferred on Vodafone (can on O2)

Preferred network type on Vodafone eSIM

(pls ignore how much data I've wasted on speedtests lol)

Good news. The August 2024 update has brought the 5G option back.

Wi-Fi Calling and 5G are at last both working at the same time for the Pixel 6 on Talkmobile - finally!

Nice to hear that it also applies to Talkmobile. They'd be a pretty good option for me if I switched from O2 and having 5G is nice.

Don't believe any other carriers got updated though, main O2 SIM still has the same carrier profile before.

Indeed, I have to try it in a 5G area first, to check that the 5G is working though.

I didn't realise O2 was also suffering with this problem with the 5G option being removed from Pixel phones too!

Nah, O2 is fine, sorry if I confused you with the way I worded that. Lebara and Talkmobile received carrier profile updates from what I've seen here, but no other network has afaik

Never had any issues with receiving 5G but Talkmobile would be a better option anyways since I'm in a VF host area

Ah right! Talkmobile usually run plenty of deals (especially during Black Friday) and Holiday periods. That would be the best time to switch from O2.

Topcashback are doing a pretty good deal at the moment.

50GB for £8 a month on a 30 day SIM. Here's the Hot UK Deals link with comments from other users below:

Works out more expensive than O2 at the moment for me, that's the problem 😂

I use around 40GB a month (38GB so far this month with 8 days till my refresh) and my bill is £7.37 currently on O2 for unlimited data

When price rises happen next year, it'll probably make sense for me to switch then, and if I do have any issues with porting for whatever reason, then I can just port back to an O2 MVNO or something instead of calling a special team hopefully (number is registered to Virgin Media currently)

That's a good deal. When Virgin Media switched their Virgin Mobile customers over to O2 they put everyone on really good tariffs. Unfortunately they are raising their prices/moving legacy customers to standard O2 tariffs which are more expensive.

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about whether VM will end up moving me to a terrible mobile plan whenever the broadband needs renewing. If that happens, I'll be asking for the old plan back or just porting out, O2 does have some scenarios where it performs better but Vodafone has decent 5G coverage (compared to 5 5G masts on O2 atm).

Having VOLT with the upgraded broadband speed an WiFi Pods as a result of being on O2 is a nice little bonus.

If you have full fibre, have a look at what Vodafone Broadband and a Vodafone mobile plan will cost you (same with EE) and hopefully you can use that as leverage if they initially offer you a more expensive/worse plan than you're on just now.

ADSL unfortunately here from OR, no CityFibre coverage yet. Vodafone 5G would probably be the best comparison considering I'd need a 5G router in the attic to test Three 5G ideally (I'm out of range of n78 because I'm in between two sectors unfortunately).

Do you need to be a special package or anything for the WiFi pods? I have noticed it being a feature of Volt for quite a while, I don't know whether we necessarily need it (probably don't if VM upgrades our Hub 3 eventually).

The pods are free if you have Gigabit broadband or a Volt package (when you have VM broadband and an O2 mobile).
