I recently moved to a 2 bed maisonette and found out that the building is Hyperoptic enabled.

Problem I have is bad wifi upstairs the router which is downstairs near the entrance where the router is nokia hyperhub I signed up to 1gbps speeds.

I have Huawei AX3 which is no good as a extender as soon as I go into the living room I loose wifi signal

What do you guys recommend mesh system or wifi extender.

Here are the pics of my flat to get an idea.

I was thinking of getting TP-Link AC2600 Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi Range Extender dont know if it will solve the problem

+1 wire & router. I use a Vodafone thg3000 which is excellent and very cheap.

Perhaps you could pass one of those flat ethernet cable via ground floor window to 1st floor window. Make sure you get a good cable as these flat ones tend to be shitty, don't skimp.

Just realised I have Huawei Ax3 router using as an extender which I can connect to the main router.

Can I place the Nokia Hyperhub up stairs I have bought cat8 cable 25m that should be enough excess cable I will just use Hook and loop tie which I will buy or the the main router needs to be downstairs then connect it to the secondary router or does it work both ways.

You don’t need Cat8. 5e is going to be way faster than anything you are going to achieve over Wi-Fi for a start.
Just turn off DHCP and set a static IP address on the slave and you are good to go.

I know I didnt need to buy cat8 thought I would be future proof lol.

How do I set Huawei Ax3 up instructions are here https://consumer.huawei.com/ca/support/content/en-us15806339/

I set it up as Bridge AP

you guys know I want to use Huawei Ax3 as a secondary router connect it up to my main router and leave my main router downstairs so I have solid connect via wireless and wired

If someone could tell me how to do this if not its ok

Just to check if I'm understanding the last few posts, do you have a network cable connecting the AX3 to your main router?

My ax3 router is not connected to the main router as im waiting for the cable to arrive.

Another option im thinking is RJ45 Splitter Adapter Connector so I can connect AX3 directly rather then connecting it to the isp provided router.

What is the best option for me as I want wired connection upstairs to connect devices and use WiFi

Huawei in bridge ap mode sounds like it does the trick, but don't know for sure their operating modes. Once you set it like that it should suffice to uplink it into the Nokia hub.

Don't use that Splitter, looks dodgy.

Your right looks dodgy I wont use it here is a pic which is from Huawei website of the settings it says Bridge then in brackets says AP

Currently im using AX3 as an extender just waiting for the cable to arrvie.

this can be used as an bridge mode and access point as it says AP.

Some routers label it differently but can be used as AP if it says Bridge only check if it allows AP if its like Ax3 like ap in brackets it should work or have dive into the settings play around with it see if it allows AP

Wired the AX3 using flat cat8 shielded cable from my main router which U bought.

Inserted in the main router LAN port then into the WAN port of the AX3 I haven't configured it yet I will cofig it later show you speed test results.

Cat cables are robust if you invest in a good quality one for exmaple say you wire your property or flat and if the cable catches the door while you open your living room or bedroom door should be fine like shieldede.

I used aluminium self adhesive clips makes it look better

Rather then using those nail clips

Shall I disable dhcp on my secondary router AX3 so my main router is assignig ip addresses to my devices to avoid ip address conflict.

Plus can I have same ssid as the main router to move around seamlessly around my flat.

Definitely disable dhcp and set the same WiFi said.

Don’t think of the secondary router as a “router” any more. It has to now act effectively a passive device - really just a WiFi access point.

So as @Lucian notes you must disable all of the more advanced routing functionality on that box; no NAT/firewall, no DHCP server, none of that. Connect it back to your main router via its LAN port and not it’s WAN port.

All that box needs to “do “is provide WiFi (and perhaps some spare LAN ports for any devices with a wired LAN need).

To make WiFi coverage / roaming etc as seamless as possible - set the same SSID and WiFi security credentials & password on both boxes. Modern devices should dynamically sort themselves out on WiFi channel spacing - but it may pay to set these manually so that the channels don’t overlap and interfere with one another.

I dont connect the acess point to from main router Lan port to wan port or its Lan to lan.

I understood that disabling dhcp on the access point now the main router will assign ip address avoiding ip address conflict which I did

Internet acess mode is set to dhcp is that correct

Yeah, the huawei should be a dhcp client in this case.
