I turned off dhcp but having problems obtaining ip address when connecting I just left it on for now.Yeah, the huawei should be a dhcp client in this case.

As I’m sure you’re aware there is a distinction between DHCP Server and DHCP Client functionality. You want the latter for the access point, however it may not be the address your expecting - so check what’s been handed out from the main router (the DHCP server).I turned off dhcp but having problems obtaining ip address when connecting I just left it on for now.
The problems usually aren’t apparent immediately, but down the track when you have (potentially) duplicate addresses being handed out by two boxes which have no clues there is a second DHCP server. Best to avoid this mess if you can.Some keep dhcp on doesn't cause any problems at all
