WiFi issues with Arris Router

We had YouFibre installed on Friday and were provided with an Arris router. Everything seemed ok to start but then we constantly had wifi drop outs and buffering. I did some searching and turned off IPv6 on the router, but the wifi drop outs still happen. I'm not sure if there's anything more underlying, but there's an automatic wifi analyser in the router that will check for congestion and change the channel, but it seems to be doing this every 5 minutes and it disconnects all wifi devices. Anyone else had anything like this? I can't find anyway to disable the auto channel scan!

Try setting a specific WiFi band for the 5GHz network. Perhaps try channel 52, most devices default to 36 or 40 and it may be a bit congested. The automatic one might not be that smart.

That's what I'd like to do, but there's no option to manually set a channel, you can't even turn off the auto channel scan. Was hoping someone has had the same issue so I can see how it was fixed.

YouFibre maintain remote access to their routers so you could always shoot off an email and have them change it for you.

I'm assuming on that Arris router the setting would be under 'WiFi' somewhere on the settings page.

Hi.
I have the Arris router (although I'm not currently using it).
You can definitely set your own choice of WiFi channels. From memory, you need to disable the 'WiFi Home' option which, in turn, will enable access to the settings you need to change.

I also have an Arris router I don't use and am sure @kroma is correct about the WIFI Channels, the Arris router setting are a little clunky.

Thanks both Krome and Pincera, I'm heading over to my parents tonight so will check this out. I'm hoping this is the cause of the issues they are having! Mum's iPhone will start buffering then come up with the pop-up "The Wi-Fi network "YouFibre-2570" does not appear to be connected to the internet" and happens probably 10+ times a day. I'm hoping it's the WiFi channels hopping around. I've tried their live chat and they're useless. They kept blaming the WiFi signal and tried to sell the YouMesh boosters. They also ended the chat without giving any notice and halfway through a conversation! A chat I did thought channels meant 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and provided no support. One of them did finally send it over to their technical team but yet to hear from them.

Had so many people praising YouFibre including friends but it's been a horrendous 3 days for my parents, even having to switch back on the Vodafone router for a short while just to have stable internet. They're glad they haven't cancelled it yet!

FWIW turning IPv6 off will also do absolutely nothing to change Wi-Fi performance or connectivity problems, so you should also turn that back on.

You were right, turning off WiFi Home allowed me to set a channel on the wifi instead of it being on auto. After a few hours it all seemed stable until once again, everything cut off! A YouFibre engineer came over today and took a look at the setup but couldn't find any faults. He eventually set up a YouMesh node upstairs and told my parents to give it a few days and see if the service has improved as he believed it was a WiFi signal issue. Will see how things go.

Hi, I got YouFibre yesterday with the arris router.

I was wondering if there’s a way to have the 2.5GHz & 5GHz bands separate?

I’m not using the Arris NVG578LX router but have powered mine up to look at the settings. To assign different SSID’s to the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band you need to disable Wi-Fi Home, apply the changes then you can setup the two bands separately in the “Primary” tab. If you want to manually set the channel you may have to adjust the bandwidth for the appropriate frequency in the “Advanced” tab

Will give this a try, thank you for looking
