Will I ever be free of TT?

This is no doubt a variation on many a desparate theme from the TT catalogue of misery. After deciding that TT were not the ISP for me, I requested that my account be closed and my MAC code be sent to me in January of 2006. No MAC code arrived. Many months down the line, I have continued to be connected, they have been taking £26.99/month instead of £14.99/month from my account - even more galling when it should be FREE by now. Every time I ring up on the 0870 number (it's nice that they can make a profit for being rubbish) I get a different tale, which bears no resemblance the previous tale. And now, without any warning I can no longer get a connection. Obviously, it has taken a number of phone calls (each with a different tale), I'm even more upset than I was in the first place. The latest tale is that my disconnection is still in the system, and that whilst I am still a registered customer and should still have my connection, my login details have been scrubbed from their system. They have kindly offered to send me out new login details which will take 5 days. What I really want them to do is to refund the money they owe me and get off my line so that I can get a new ISP! So, has anybody got any advice as to how I can do this? I'll chase the money later, but right now I want my line back and to get online with another ISP ASAP.

Who is TT ?

It can only be "Talk-Talk." Even if I didn't know this, I would be able to work it out from the description. The sort of customer service that makes those "Tarmac yer Drive Missus" traders look Blue Chip by comparision. And charging for services which are sold as free or on special offer is a speciality of theirs.

In my humble opinion, as an ex-telephone TT costomer who escaped back into the cheaper, professionally run and honest arms of BT, dont touch with a bargepole, not ever.

Me? Biased? Nahhh.

TalkTalk

Yup. TalkTalk are a bunch of shysters and I realise that there are hundreds of you out there at the mercy if this terrible organisation. We're all agreed that they're a disgrace, but how do I get rid of them. They won't disconnect me and as long as they're on my telephone line, I can't get myself a new ISP...or am I wrong. I have previously tried to get myself a new provider, but they said that they were unable to help as I already had a provider. What should I do?

I feel relatively confident that I will get my money back - the law is clearly on my side, but in the short term how do I get rid of them?

At this point there is no quick and easy method...

They will continue to lead you along and spin you for everything you are worth....
They also know that 99.99% of people are not willing to put up a real fight and so give the old 'Yeah whatever' speech and do as they please (You have seen this in action)

You MUST take the initiative now.....
Goto the CAB.....
Get a solicitor.....
Start the ball rolling on a court date....

You need to make them sit up and understand that this has gone on too long.
Phoning up and talking will only get you so far....If they don't want to be nice then you shouldn't either

To those who've suggested I take them to court - that is my intention. Based on the recommendations on this website I went on the Fast website this evening and typed in my phone number & postcode. The people at Fast were good enough to let me know that there is a cease on my ADSL connection scheduled for completion on the 22nd December. Isn't it strange that I was able to get that information quite easily from their website, and yet TalkTalk didn't give me the same information - even when I called them FIVE times to ask them what was going on.

I have arranged for Fast to pick up my line as soon as TalkTalk get their useless backsides off it. Unfortunately, despite having requested my MAC code many times and not having received it, I will have to pay a start-up fee. Something else to put on the list of costs when I take TalkTalk to the small claims court.

Thanks for the helpful comments, and wish me luck in my endeavours with TalkTalk in the new year. Cheers :)

Pettitoes,

Just out of interest, are you in a 12 or 18 month contract with talk talk? That might explain why they would not give you your MAC code back in January.
