I tried to recently get Trooli FTTP installed but received a cancellation notice the day before the planned install saying:
Essentially they have asked me to cough up £650, which i'm ok with...however, the next day Gigaclear coincidentally sent me some post out of the blue saying they are now covering my area. I promptly ordered the 900mb service and have an install date at the end of October. However, pre-installation checks still need to be carried out, and customer service have advised it could happen any day up until the day of the install. I don't want to be in a situation where i have my install cancelled a day before, just like the Trooli situation. I've asked them to bring forward pre-install checks, but they say they cannot do this.
Is it likely Gigaclear will have the same problems as Trooli, or do they use completely different methods to get FTTP to my house? Is there anything i can check my self that will give me clues to whether or not my house is ready for install?
I'm wondering if i should just cancel the Gigaclear as i don't want to wait until late october, just for the pre-install checks to come back as failed when i could have paid £650 to Trooli now and have the ball rolling already for the JUP permissions? JUP permissions can take up to 6 months i'm told.
Our engineer was nearby the area, and we had asked him to take a look before tomorrow’s appointment to predetermine what’s required.
Frustratingly we will need to pop the account on hold, which also means we will need to cancel the appointment for tommorow. Our sincere apologies for the late notice and any inconvenience caused.
There are reasons behind this as to why we will not be able to activate the service just yet ; after he’s looked into the route he’s noticed along the route there is a JUP and we would also require a hoist.
A JUP is a joint user pole, and these are the telegraph poles which carry electric cables. We need to have specialist equipment and trained engineers to climb/mount these poles as it can be very dangerous.
They are owned by UKPN/SSEN, and we are one of very few providers who have permissions in certain areas to use these for connections. I haven’t yet heard back from the JUP specialist, but once we do know more we will be back in touch.
I'd like to take a moment to clarify that your property was not initially included in our coverage plan, primarily due to the complexities associated with the Joint Use Pole (JUP) and the related licensing process. Our dedicated sales team made genuine efforts to have your property added to our coverage, yet unfortunately, an oversight occurred in forwarding the request to the appropriate team responsible for the JUP license.
In addition our pre-installation check has alerted us to additional work required. It has been calculated that this would cost £650 in excess construction cost (EEC).
