I bought a pc from ebay which came wit win 98, soon as I go 2 windows update website, it goes your network policy wont let access this website or some thing like tat keep coming up. what do I do?

I tried installing IE 6 installed ok, but still can't access the windows update website. :(

any setting I need to change?

I personally wouldn't even log onto the Internet with Win98 =), which can not be secured properly no matter how many MS patches you apply. MS is somewhat vague on whether it even provides proper support for 98 users anymore.

Instead I'd suggest getting the "UNOFFICIAL Windows98 Second Edition Service Pack". Hopefully you're using 98SE, otherwise I don't know what to suggest, other than finding a version of IE5 SR2 or newer that can be installed on 98 and trying that:

This contains all Windows98 SE updates from WindowsUpdate site and more.
