windows firewall not working

Just got rid of trend micro firewall, and all is not tell. Windows firewall, usually asks when using programs to block or unblock. Right now, whatever I run, from steam (game client) to limewire, it asks me nothing, and nothing is every added to the exceptions list, but it still works. This is definetly a securtiy vulnerability.
Is there any way to get it wokring again?

I just upgraded PC-cillin to Internet Security 14 and it set its own firewall up but I've switched it off and am back using the Win XP firewall. PC-cillin seems a bit over-protective as it was causing very slow connection to web sites which I'd previously had no bother accessing. But I found out what was causing it on their help pages and turned the option off.

It's difficult to know how much protection to have on the PC. It seems if you have all the filters on it just slows the machine down. I reckon keeping the anti-virus and spy-bot programs up-to-date are probably the most important things.

Hi, thanks for replying, even though it is nearly 6 months since I posted this.;D

I found some sort of LSP layer was corrupted, so I reset it and windows firewall worked normally after that.
