Windows XP and tkonnect

 I installed XP yesterday and everything seemed fine till I tried to use tkonnect. The program failed to dialup the number and simply just launched the browser. I'm not sure if I just manually connect using dialup networking that I won't end up with a hefty bill as some on this forum. Has anyone successfully used this program with XP? It says on Tiscali's page that XP is not supported. So what the hell are you supposed to do? Reinstall Win98?! Is tknonnect an essential part of the connecting to Tiscali?

Actually, clicking on "connect to tiscali" on the desktop only launches internet explorer. Tkconnect changes the dialup number ur currently connected to.

Yeah but the thing should change settings / create settings with the number etc but it fails to do this. XP seems like a good os system it's just a pity they didn't do a little bit more on driver front. (impression so far)

it retrives the new number from the internet, so will only change it whilst ur on the internet.

But anyway the number is 147008089933058 so just connect to that.

Thanks for that. Yeah I was connected when I downloaded it. The log mentions the following: RUNAPP 21/01/2002 19:22:29 version 1.2.3.0 : Could not delete existing executable :C:\Program Files\Tiscali\tkonnect\tkonnect.exe

Something is stopping the updater working. I have tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling. I've emailed the Tiscali support and they have responded but it didn't fix the problem. I've given more information now so hopefully they can come up with the solution.

that's because ur running it from program files! its trying to reinstall itself over itself.

It should run automatically on startup. But if not, put this in the start>run box:

"C:\Program Files\Tiscali\tkonnect\TKONNECT.EXE" updatemode

Yeah I agree. After I read about unable to delete existing executable I uninstalled the thing according to Tiscali's support instructions. So there was no need for the executable to over write itself. I have since then reinstalled and run it from the desktop as normal with no luck. Actually trying to run it from the program files was more of a last resort at the time as it wasn't working from the way it was supposed too. I'll try out your instructions tonight to see if that works but I have actually joined PlusNet and am now in the process of cancelling Tiscali (wish me luck!) Thanks again for your help and advice.
