Hi there

Are there any new developments to wire tether from android/apple phones by any chance?

I have my router able to have 2 wan's and would like to try adding a 2nd unlimited phone now and then just to get that extra speed (ax9000)

So far I have the apple 12 mini on ee unlimited doing nothing but I have my Three unlimited giving me what it can. I want to see if I'll be able to see cctv through all these cgnat and nat bonanza....

Entirely possible, but it won't be bonded WAN as in 2 connections acting as 1.

It'll be more like 2 connections acting as 2 connections with the load balancing picking whichever one to use first.
The only time you'll see benefit in speed are things like peer to peer transfers, torrents etc or downloads that use multiple connections effectively chunking the file.

Speedtest.net does multiple but only 3 I think so if your balancing is like 5-1, if it picks up all 3 on the 5 line you'll see no benefit.

If you set the APN on your the device to 3internet it does away with the cgnat.

Been looking for a week now

10gb usb3 lan card, about £100
2.5gb usb3 lan card maybe £35

Iphone camera adapter £30-45

Just a thought here. I can wifi6 on iphone 12 and tether to a repeater. That should give me max connection speeds

My thoughts here, is there a good wifi6 router with mu-mimo and qam that'll let me bridge my iPhone's hotspot out but through a 2.5gb port?

Sorry but this appears to be an imbalance of kit/cost.

An iPhone 12 is not cheap to use primarily as a modem. Using 5G and WIFI Hotspot will burn power resulting in heat and whilst iPhones have good battery management permanent charging will shorten their battery life.

Whilst theoretically the Hotspot will deliver up to 1500Mbps practically it will be a lot lower and besides that what kind of speed will your routinely receive on 5G. You may be very fortunate but real life performance will always apply.

I have been actively using tethered 5G phones for over 18 months but this has been with cheaper Android, I would not sacrifice my iPhone 13. Even with the Android ones I protect the battery and shut down everything to reduce heat. My objective has been what best a mast can deliver and reliable ultrafast.

If you want to maximise a very good 5G speed and are talking Gigabit+ speeds it would have to be a good 5G Router and interface that to 2.5/10Gbps if needed. We are a long way from mmWave.

Yes indeed, what I've seen with 2.5gb lan were about £250+ and I don't know if those will bridge out through that port anyway

I understand it'll be an overkill , I'm just looking for cheap return/open box amazon deals here
For either routers or 2.5 usb lan cards

Besides heat, what might age the battery?
Any chance you know how long might last under very heavy loads?

Mainly trickle charge cycles as the battery diminishes under load. The power management in better phones is good but it doesn't always obey the rules if you are using the phone while power is present. The answer is to ensure only power is available at certain intervals by monitoring power discharge using:
  • Manual connection
  • Mechanical mains timer
  • Power smart switches (a lot of hassle)
  • A Chargie and its App (Romania) which I settled on.
In my van the charge can be reduced to every 3/4 days. All depends on setup.

Chargie seems very nice, but if you have a rooted android phone you can use AccA (magisk module + app) to accomplish the same, but in software only.

I've been using it with great success on my Xiaomi mi 10t lite which is plugged in all the time (tethering).

Yes excellent. Tried this and others. If the phone is to be dedicated not a problem. Just shows Android or manufacturer could bake it into the standard functionality if they wanted.

They need to leave room for "planned obsolescence"...
