to be honest after all that messing around with my wireless (its not set to auto any more lol) l couldnt be bothered to revert settings (despite the fact WifI Analyzer recommended l use channel 56, which isnt actually selectable in my options). though all that time spent was annoying considering l could have fixed the issue straight away by just removing the windows update mentioned above.
admittedly I didnt really think it was an app until someone commented about some app that was keeping their speed low back in 2015, after coming across that page l decided to check my install history which lead me to two updates (Adobe and WinUpdate) by process of elimination, l searched the net for the KB article of the update suggesting others had issues with a previous version of it, so l thought ld remove it and after a reboot things seemed to be working fine again.
that said while l was looking for that information l came across facts like my version of windows 10 doesnt have the ability to hide windows updates, but that MS do offer an additional troubleshooting file which can be downloaded from their website to allow me to skip problem updates (versions of home and certain versions of pro dont have the ability to hide updates), its also worth mentioning that if you set your internet connection as metered windows updates wont auto download which came in useful after the restart prior to me running the file allowing me to hide the problem update.
all in all though lm glad l got everything sorted seeing as it was annoying the bejesus out of me that l was going so slow.. nothing more annoying that experiencing fibre speeds but somehow reverting to what felt less than 10meg XD l guess that makes me somewhat spoiled rofl.
