Wireless option kit, anyone got it ?

Looking for ISP for friend,
She wants broadband, on a laptop and the ability to connect from anywhere in the house and the summer house

I was looking at getting a wireless netgear bundle with laptop card (802.11b i guess) and then an ISP.

Noticed Vispa do a "Wireless Starter Pack" with ;

512k Maximum Downstream
256k Maximum Upstream
50:1 Contention
Free 802.11b Wireless Router, filters and software Included
Static IP (Multiple IP options)
Backup 0845 Service
----
it also mentions the BT connection costs included, I guess this is the £58 figure most quote.
Cost is £25pm, so £300 a year.
So, effectively £100 for a netgear bundle, the £58 connection charge
Gives £142 difference which equates to £12pm for the actual internet access.
Seems very good option.

Anyone using this?
Simple to setup?
Is the router/card stuff re-useable should whe go elsewhere after the 12 months?

Not much info in this area on the vispa site :crap:

I'll post a question for you in Vispa's forums with a link to your question, hopefully somebody will pop along and answer your question.

Hiya,

I just got the Vispa wireless start up pack a few weeks ago. I'm really pleased with the connection to Vispa, which seems fast and stable. The router reaches all rooms in our flat easily, and the box quotes a maximum range of 18,000 feet, and seems perfectly re-usable if you wanted to change ISPs later ... it should be noted that the pack doesn't come with a wireless laptop card (at least mine didn't), so you have to find this yourself! The only gripe is the build quality of the router, don't expect a nice Netgear or 3com sturdy piece of kit, the router you get from Vispa seems cheap and plasticky and the instructions seem to have been written by someone with only a basic grasp of English. The web-based interface (for configuring the router) is clunky and horrible to use. Still it seems to do the job, but looks damn ugly. Hope this helps,

Jed
