I had OneTel for 12 months with a few problems, but after contacting their marketting dept my problems were resolved.
Recently they advised me to switch to TalkTalk as they were "Able to offer a faster service".
Worst decision I ever made.
After submitting the MAC code to TalkTalk ( yes, it's the same company but I still had to go thorugh the formality ) I heard nothing.
Chasing them I eventually found out the switchover date, but by that date no information had arrived and my old broadband was de-activated.
after 2 hours on the phone in queues I eventually got the account details and managed to connect.
2 weeks later I finally received the account details and their modem.
Now, after 4 weeks I find that most of the services I use frequently no longer work due to the extremely high latency on the Opaltelecom network ( yes, it's owned by their parent company, carphone warehouse ).
Now my latency can typically be 300ms to game servers, so internet gaming is no longer.
Video conferencing, and Skype voice services are also unusable
So I submitted a detailed report, including PathPing reports showing where the problems are, their response was that I'd have to call and speak to technical support, and wait in a queue, which they admitted might be quite long, plus I'd be charged for the priviledge.
I don't mind paying for technical support when I have a problem with my equipment, but as a computer scientist that rarely happens.
I'd advise people to steer well clear of talktalk.
And just to prove the point, here's a typical pathping report

note that latency over around 40mS is about the limit for realtime games and voice
