Worth moving to virgin media from community fibre?

Currently having issues with communication from CF. I have had a faulty router since 1st Oct and they are doing very little to get it resolved. Apparently they have no stock in their warehouse and when they eslcate to their admin team they don’t get back to me.

the next option in my area is virgin as they got the next highest speed. Is virgin good in terms of stable connect and speed? Also do they have good communication/support when their equipment breaks down and send new equipment out quickly?

you can just buy any router from ebay/amazon and it will work just so you know. CF has better speeds and its cheaper then VM. esp if you are gaming CF gives you lower ping.

VM were so bad for me I went back to BT DSL at 18Mb!!

I'd go with YuGis advice - then you have your own spare going forwards when CF finally replace. I am all good with CF (at the moment haha) but will be buying a spare ONT, testing it and having it 'just in case'.

Oh, and get CF to refund you on lost days :) It could help subsidise your purchase.

BTW, what are the symptoms on the router?

So when the Ethernet is going from the modem into the router, no third light comes on the modem which is what it’s supposed to do. The light on the router just stays purple no matter what. They will on refund only when they send a new router and it’s working, unfortunately I’m not sure how long this will be as they said they can’t give a timeframe.

So you are getting power on the modem? And it powers off and on OK? Can you connect to it with a the App (presuming its the Linksys supplied router)?

If you have a spare ethernet cable it may be worth swapping it in

BTW - the refund when we have got it working is standard telecoms firm behaviour. They hope that when its resolved you will forget.

So currently have a spare router that I bought yesterday just to use in the meantime and that’s working fine. Connects to the app fine. Modem is getting power. Already tried different Ethernet cables and still nothing.

So CF can be 'tied' to the MAC (hardware) address of the router, which is obviously now different. May be worth a call to CF and explaining that you have bought a new router while you are waiting for them. Ask them to clear the MAC cache so you can try this new router. They should understand, and with luck it may kick into life (maybe with an ONT and router reboot).

Worth a go - what have you got to lose?

For Customer Service 0800 082 0770 Monday to Friday, 8am-9pm, Weekends and Bank Holidays, 9am-7pm.

Another thought: If all that doesn't work it may be the ONT that's faulty.

Can’t be the ONT as the new router I bought is working. They did do a MAC reset before I changed the router and it didn’t help unfortunately.

Sorry, I am confused - is the Internet working now then?
It’s working now with the new router I got. But their router it won’t work no matter what I do. But I’m still chasing them as I still want to get the original router from them.

Glad it's working - I thought you were still without t'Internet.

Yes, I agree you should definitely pursue. Good luck!
