Xiaomi 14 (Global UK) with Lyca EE eSim = no 5G

Testing out Lyca on my Xiaomi 14 and noticed something odd, no 5G anywhere I travelled so purchased a Spusu sim to test it alongside and voila full 5g signal indoors and outside.

On Spusu I get the option to select the network type 5g/4g or 4g/4g etc but on Lyca this does not exist.

I know Lyca and Pixel phones have this issue but thought Xiaomi would not be faced with this problem

Anyone else faced this? Get VoWifi and VoLTE fine, it's almost as if the eSIM has been provisioned as 4G only.

Forcing the phone to 5G only results of course in zero signal, really wanted to move away from IDMobile (crazy fast or crazy slow with no happy medium) and Lyca seems or seemed like a good fit.

I think people have been reporting 5G issues with Lyca since the card breach and I would assume some of them aren't using eSIMs. Don't think it's your phone but Xiaomi does have carrier profiles (for Vodafone and Three from memory) which is worth noting.

On ID Mobile currently, get full 5G but no VoWifi support, VoLTE not working 100% either, found a very good deal with EE so may go direct to them.

I don't think it's going to make a difference going to EE but it might be cheaper looking at the Plusnet deals they have.

Numerous members on these forums who have never used Plusnet were able to sign up to EE's exclusive deals and they have no contract. 30d 5GB Stay Connected+unltdmins+unltdtxts is £4 if you can get an ad blocker to remove the prompt to insert a Plusnet code.

tl;dr

Lyca is sh!t escape whilst you still can.

If you need EE, go to 1pMobile/Utility Warehouse - else try Lebara.

Isn't there still latency issues, making it like dial up at certain times at night?

That is very good to know, so with their data breach, ping issues, random 5G not working, it doesn't paint a good picture for them.
So the current list is

-no 5G
-text messages not working
-data breach - possible stolen card details
-bad ping issues
-roaming is dodgy at best, funneled through Tele2 SE
-refusing to give out pac codes via 65075
-failed bundle renewals, lost deals as a result
not good at all

Not seen it yet, fixated on no 5G!, good thing I have not moved my number across and this is a secondary test sim only.
Are you using EE or Lycamobile APN settings?

I’ve been having the same issue with my Xiaomi 14. It seems that Lyca only shows 4G or 4G+ and not 5G. I’ve gone through all the settings, but nothing seems to work. I found out that Lyca doesn’t support 5G on the Xiaomi 14. So, I switched to Honest Mobile, and now I’m getting 5G at full speed. It’s the same phone, just a different provider. I really hope Lyca sorts out their 5G service soon because their plans are super affordable, and I was really enjoying it. I chose honest because of their customer service and Smart sim technology.

Glad it's not just me, first time owning a Xiaomi in a while so took it for granted that you would get 5G on any 5G capable phone but live and learn!

Just to confirm Lyca are restricting 5G usage or are being restricted it isn't your phone but the provider.
I had the same issue with my S24 ultra, when checking the signals it showed the 5G being pumped out but also showing as restricted.
I'd keep clear of Lyca as lack of 5G is only a small issue in their world!

Wow!! Lyca is not even bothered to update their users.
