I'm genuinely surprised they've taken all this time and work to pursue this. Really won't be worth their while for so few properties so kudos to them.

Mine has turned into a right can of worms, where 2 residents are preventing 26 houses from getting fttp

They could put a chamber in either side of the blockage and then dig the road to bypass the neighbours but it's expensive.

From what I've seen, ANY ducting that exists, at least on my street, has no fish wire...so even if there WERE a blockage, which they claimed existed during my initial installation, there's no way to pull anything through. Poor install by OR during the original setup.

Without knowing the lay of the land there, I couldn't suggest you do the same, but assuming the fiber will sit within the same ducts as the copper, which did in my case, use the copper to pull the fiber back through with two fish lines, then pull the copper back with one, leaving one line for a future pull.

I cannot believe (well, actually I can) that these on site folks half ass these installs as much as they do. It's common sense to leave a line for a future pull. It has enough tensile strength to get through a "block."

The fact that these are blocked by a resident means they did it wrong at he very basic levels.

C'est la vie!

To do that and get around the issue would require the line to be on its own as a single wire all the way through the chamber that's inaccessible and any blockages. If it's 26 properties Netomnia probably need access to the chamber to put a CBT in there, too.

Not aware of any time Openreach have left rope in ducts on the off-chance after installing. Is fishing wire even allowed in Openreach plant? It's pretty sharp and catching on a nearby cable could do some damage. All I've seen is blue pull rope installed as and when required with rodding beforehand to ensure duct is clear. I'm not sure customers would be impressed at having rope sticking out of their duct ends indefinitely.

Watching installs pulling is done in stages, between chambers and chamber and property so only the last drop from the chamber would be roped, getting to the chamber would be a problem as it's inaccessible.

Line sitting in ducts and especially chambers for years would get in the way and I'm not sure it'd get through actual blockages: if a blockage is stopping every rod in the set whatever is in there is pretty compacted and/or the duct has collapsed completely.

In this case if the blocked duct and chamber are on a resident's property or private land Netomnia need permission: it's not their plant and they need wayleave to put their kit in and maintain it.

If the blocked duct and chamber are on a service strip they presumably don't want the grief of going at the chamber without permission.

Pretty high chance the initial network build, duct and chambers, was done by the builders with rope left in the ducts when done for cable pulling by Openreach. I imagine someone who works in the field could explain why fishing line isn't a thing and other stuff isn't left in ducts indefinitely for future use.

tell them their house will be valued less than those around theirs, I'm 100% not moving into a house that doesn't have FTTP, living with ADSL speeds on FTTC was a nightmare.

I'm using fish wire as a general term...a tool to fish through the duct. Nothing sharp about it and in this case is relatively thin nylon rope.

Depends on whether any sharp angles exist that the rod can bend around. In my case, I'm at the end of a road...nothing else is going into the duct to my property other than what else I order. And the conduit is more than large enough.

I get that. It's poor forethought it was done like that to begin with.

It's odd. In the US, I'm pretty sure it's a thing, but I've not been on that side of the pond for quite some time. It's lack of planning by OR if they choose not to do it that way. How many issues could quickly be resolve if there was something already there to pull with?

So I've now been told I might be waiting "months or years" for my install.
And the cabling was done 17 months ago.

Quick timeline:
CBT installed at the end of my driveway August 2022.
Told by Netomnia/Youfibre it would be live on multiple different dates (all come and go)
Netomnia marks my town (Bedford) as "live" in October 2023.
last update last year was "end of 2023".
update today: "months to years" because of "resource shortage".

"
Unfortunately the build is on hold due to the lack of resource in the area, we will continue to keep you updated on the progress made to connect your community.

Due to the scale of our build, we cannot place a timeline on when we will be able to review your area. Unfortunately, I do have to advise that it could be months or years. "

I get they've got work to do, I get they're busy, I get it. Building FTTP networks isn't easy. However, they have finished doing the actual cable laying (I asked the guy from Opals group directly, he said it was finished last year) and yet nothing.

This is just a rant / me letting off steam. Nothing I can do about it. But really underwhelmed by Netomnia / YF now.

A lot of these alt-nets have been in the gold rush mindset to get things in the ground as quickly as possible but they aren't then following through on these assets and connecting customers.

That's the shortfall and it's why we're now seeing so many of them announce build pauses as they attempt to get costs under control and increase takeup on already laid infrastructure.

and that was that:

Thanks for your reply.

We do want to cause any anomosity between yourself and your neighbours.

As you were actively seeking the service, we thought you might be able to help by trying to win them around to the works needed.

Of course, if they are not looking to sign agreements, we will be unable to complete the connections at this time. If they do change their mind we can always look to revisit this in the future with the aim of getting you connected.

Again, thank you for your support in our services and we hope to find a solution in the future.

My town is still in the early stages of build despite coming and going around town since April 2023. I'm in a small town between Bedford and Hitchin, so not sure what they are counting my area as. I'd assumed Hitchin as they have 'HIT' (or S**T in fact) in the streetwork permit numbers, e.g. 'D2006-NETOM-GNSHIT262'.

I check BIDB regularly, but not holding much confidence. I've had emails saying 'soon', 'in the next few months' and most recently a BT Openreach style 'by September 2025'! I'd bite their hands off for service. Making do with FTTC and 5G for now.

That really sucks, would make my blood boil.

all I can say is don't hold your breath, and don't bother asking.
I got given 5 different dates and none of them were kept to.
I foolishly delayed and cancelled contracts based on these timelines
(I had a pre-order, which they've stopped doing now). I have been waiting for reliable good internet for years and nobody can deliver it unless I want to go get myself a leased line. I was actually getting quotes for FTTPoD and I was even prepared to shell out the money, until Netomnia put cables in the ground and I held off. That was more than 18 months ago now though.
