Very difficult to answer any questions about latency without being told the target IP and seeing a traceroute from each provider to compare.

Multiple things can affect latency.
And not as important as many think.

Unless you're trading (and shouldn't do it over the internet anyway if you really care) it doesn't matter. No...it doesn't matter at these levels for gaming.

Hey guys,
I checked on Youfibre’s website and it looks like they are planning my area for full fibre. I can see on BIDB they are planning on doing work from the 12th of July to the 16th of July. Anyone know how long it would take them for the service to go live? Haven’t had anything through the mail yet like some of the others on this thread.

If you look back on this thread, the question has been posed a number of times and unfortunately there is no definitive answer it could take 2 weeks or 9 months. Go live is dependent on so many factors it’s near impossible to provide any sort of guidance.

@B7869 It can take even years... .

On my street (PE13 3TL) they did cabling 2022, then (for some reason) again spring 2023. Still waiting to go live... .

I agree, but the competitive gaming community seem to jump on the smallest of things, I have seen large reddit threads claiming of untold lag improvement from changing registry settings that dont do anything. :)

I have been helping my neighbour, she is in her 80s and has no idea about broadband suppliers, Talk Talk were charging her £43 for 55mb. We canceled Talk Talk and ordered Youfibre a week ago, 150mb for £22.99, the broadband was installed today and everything is working just fine.

3 times the speed for around half the price, that's a good deal for her.

Super disappointed with Youfibre, the latency is quite a bit worse than on my previous 36mb TalkTalk package. Support said they don't have latency guarantees, really regretting going with them.
If it makes you feel any better my route changes pretty frequently. Sometimes a lot worse and sometimes a bit better. Yf say they have no control of it. Its no where near what my old zen connection was. Been with it for 2 years but maybe moving back to zen for the latency. The other issue I tried to flag up but told NFF is the ipv6. Works for about 3 days then breaks.

Hi,

Since your IPv6 hasn’t worked did they suggest it may be your router?

Having the same issue.

No. I run pfsense and opnsense. Same issue on both platforms and on different hardware. It even did it on my udm se pro. They aren't interested. I've tried so not even using ipv6 anymore. When I first had the service 2 years ago it was absolutely fine.

have you recreated it on their own router to prove it's a network issue and not your own config that's wrong? I had a similar issue and it worked on their eero, turned out I was missing a check box on my pfsense

When my neighbour had her Youfibre installed I spoke to install engineer he said it was fairly unusual to be carrying out an install on an ex Talk Talk customer, he went on to say that 95% of his installs, in this area, were ex Virgin customers.

Hi. I have the 1gbps package and the Arris NVG578LX gateway. Not been overly blown away with the speed or the range of the wifi. The range is the biggest issue tbh. Could someone recommend either a replacement router or mesh setup for <£100?

Hey folks,

So yesterday I ordered You after a letter from Netomnia telling me I could get their service - the symmetrical speeds is something I could really do with so yes please, lets sign up!

Imagine my surprise this morning when I get a chap at the door and they were here (3rd party contractor) to rod up and cable to the wall! wow, amazing!!

Queue 20 minutes in, I get a ton of notifications that all my services are down.... uh oh, red "LOS" on the Openreach ONT visible, so I run out and while they are working and let them know.

Yep, they have managed to damage my existing connection. Disaster! It looks like the outer sheath has came loose and stretched out the single strand - It's actually snapped right off now so it's a goner!

I work in IT and know accidents happen so we're all good and they assure me that OR would be arranged to sort this out. Lunchtime arrives and no one has made contact. I call You and they have no record of the damage but will look into it. Netomnia then call and tell me that can't do anything as it's with OR and I have to contact them. REALLY?! you tell me now that I need to do this?

Anyway, OR can't be reached directly so I have to contact my existing provider (IDNet) and basically say "hey guys, I was in the middle of leaving and the new provider has broken your cable, can you fix it please".

So now I'm waiting for OR to come and fix the mess that I've been left with. Myself and wife work from home so today has been pretty much a loss - been trying our best to tether to our phones but as an IT Consultant I tend to do a lot of video calls so it's been not the best of days.

So yeah, from super excited to super down in the space of 24 hours!

Oh okay fair enough.

I was having problems. Then suggested it was hardware at fault so replaced my old router with a new one which I’m now getting IPv6 on some devices however not on gaming consoles

I agree with the range it’s pretty poor on the arris and eero.

Would also been interested if someone could recommend a good replacement

Good news for me, OR arrived first thing this morning and re-spliced my current connection that the You contractor damaged!

Now to get You fibre back and try again however there's a collapse somewhere in the path to my house but the old copper line have been left which could be used to pull through new fibre?
