YouFibre Customers

Good news for me, OR arrived first thing this morning and re-spliced my current connection that the You contractor damaged!

Now to get You fibre back and try again however there's a collapse somewhere in the path to my house but the old copper line have been left which could be used to pull through new fibre?

tell them to use the old copper line to pull through :P I would -.-

Indeed - It's just sitting there waiting to be used one last time :)

My only other query that you folks might be able to advise is the ONT - I don't want the ONT/Modem/Router (Arris?) combo as I'm using a Unifi UCG and for tidiness it would be good if I can wall mount similar to the OR ONT like this:

Do you think I'll get something similar (or at the least, be able to ask for the non ONT/Router combo)?

Thanks!

Your get something like this on the inside.

I have been helping my neighbour, she is in her 80s and has no idea about broadband suppliers, Talk Talk were charging her £43 for 55mb. We canceled Talk Talk and ordered Youfibre a week ago, 150mb for £22.99, the broadband was installed today and everything is working just fine.

3 times the speed for around half the price, that's a good deal for her.
Imagine that - more for less money (y)

...always been the case and will always be the case - older folks and the less computer-savvy are continually been fleeced by ISP(s), wonder what she will do with her new 150Mbps high speed internet :)

I doubt she will use it for online gambling or serious gaming, she likes to play candy crush and solitaire etc as well as just surfing the net, she has an Android tablet.

wow, she is one techno-gran, good for her :giggle:

It looks like the outer sheath has came loose and stretched out the single strand
Weather that’s only a crop of the overall image I don’t know, but I wouldn’t think that it should’ve ever even been exposed just by that small white sheath. I’d expect an armored cable for an exterior install such as that.

If that was the complete install, that was just asking for trouble and surprised you haven’t had problems ‘til now.

Yeah that's just a crop, the black "protection" part was further down in that screenshot and wasn't secured properly to the CSP. All fixed and now the black outer is secured into the CSP where it should be.

I have "planned works" showing on BIDB for today/tomorrow to sort out the blockage so they should be back at some point and hopefully get me cabled up for commissioning. fingers crossed!

Thanks!
It’ll be very similar just a little bigger. I have the Arris and the Eero pro 6e due to IPv6 faults and prefer the Arris for signal. But no problem to use your own

When’s your YouFibre scheduled for?

When’s your YouFibre scheduled for?

I ordered 30/07 and the installation is scheduled for 28/08.

Today I've had guys turn up to clear the blockage and they were very prepared as they had a mini excavator with them! In the end, they just used the old copper line to pull through some rope - They were surprised that they had to be called in once I told them there was a copper line just waiting to be used.

Anyway, the good news is, the rope is now in place and I assume the previous guys (who damaged my OR cable) will be back soon :)

So, still on schedule for 28/08!

Technically that wasn't their copper line to remove, but if you are happy to see it gone then it doesn't matter.

My suggestion would be that when the team turn up to pull the fibre in they also pull a new rope at the same time so you always have a rope in your duct.

Yeah, I would like to have a permanent rope for future use! I will certainly ask the guys if they can do that - Good advice @jpm, thanks!

To be fair, the OR engineer said they should use the copper and he actually chopped it off at the wall and rolled it up for them so I told the guys they could use it - I guess that's on me though but hopefully OR don't ask for it back ha!

I'm glad I'm getting closer now and so is the "what router and switches should I buy next" - Currently using a Unifi UCG which has 2.5GB WAN but only 1GB LAN ports - UCG Max is 2.5GB across all ports and then there's the UDM Pro which would allow me to upgrade to You8000 (I'm not using the IDS/IPS on my UCG so not too bothered about the speed limitations of this).

The guy that did mine wouldn't do that, and I'd even suggested that to him. In the end, I did exactly that myself, and pulled two fish lines; one to pull the copper line back, and one to leave in place for the subsequent fiber pull. They then pulled a fish line back with the fiber should anything else be installed.

Basic installation to have a fish line ready for the future. Amazes me that it wasn't done in the first place, and it's not even a 10 year old property and well maintained vaults/ducts.

Looks like there's a line already in your image. I'd suggest tying that off so it doesn't fall into the conduit.

I had OR pull my fibre through on the end of my copper line. I wasn't using either of them so didn't care to keep it. It was Openreach's civils team themselves and they were more than happy to do that. I was using Starlink at the time, so didn't affect me.

Well my install date was 28/08 however I managed to get the install done… today! Woohoo!

Guys did a tidy job of the wiring and after waiting for the DHCP lease to expire, I’m now up and running using my UCG!

I’m getting close to 900 down and a tad over 900 upload. I also ordered a static IP and didn’t need to mess with any settings to get this working (I read some stuff saying I would need to clone the MAC of the Arris router).

Actually, close to 1000 on the wire!

So yeah, all done and dusted! Just need to cancel my IDnet connection and get a refund on remaining payments!
