Last November, I asked my ISP, Zetnet, to migrate our ADSL connection to a different number (on the same exchange). This has still not been implemented and today I received some more information. I seems that their wholesale supplier is/was Legend, who were taken over by Thus plc (formerly part of Scottish Power, but has been a separate company for some time) back in 2006.
Last October, apparently Thus told Zetnet tht they wouldn't honour any orders for new or modified circuits until a new contract was signed and effective. Zetnet say that Thus then took eight weeks to provide a copy of the new contract, which was substantially and materially different to the one they had with Legend. They responded with their own comments and are still awaiting a response from the legals at Thus. ITMT, it's now been ten weeks since we moved and we still don't have our ADSL connection at the new location! To be fair to Zetnet, they have provided a freephone dial-up number that we're using in the meantime, but you all know how painful THAT can be!
Personally, I don't see how Thus can legally do what they're doing. If you take over a company, then you inherit all of its contractual liabilities (amongst other things). Fine if you want to negotiate a new contract, do that and (try to) reach a mutually acceptable new agreement, but to cut off services in a way that so badly affects end-users seems a ridiculously unfair and immoral thing to do!
Is this a case of Samson walking all over David, just because they can? Is anyone else here affected by this issue? I'm sure Zetnet isn't their only service provider client, so are any others affected by this? And are there any other Zetnet end-users here that are affected by this situation?
Regards
Nigel
