ZTE MC801A Review

does the iphone sim have faster speeds in the router?
iphone sim is 3, router sim is 3.~150mbps faster on the phone & slightly better ping/jitter.
If i didn;t have to use ethernet for a thin client i would tether off my phone!

ah sorry i get you, i haven't swapped the sims - i should try that but tbh i'm happy if connection solid - speeds not really an issue for me. And also I’m not a great tech so trying not to mess around / mess up too much :)

rebooting when under a bit of load ie ps5 or streaming a film
im tempted to pull out, whats the cooling off period?
I just spoke to three. They recognise the problem , understand it’s software and are after a fix, no eta. I think I will wait a while , the fact they didn’t offer a replacement means they must know software. I’m hoping they fix soon.
14 days is the cooking off period . They can’t offer any reassurance .

Any ideas on how to force an update to B09? I'm on B04 and my external antenna doesn't seem to work, but it says there are no updates available

Some think that B09 was pulled due to the reboot issue. Will likely be replaced by another update at some point.

Ah I see

Am I right in understanding even with a later firmware the external antenna are for 5G only?

The antenna's do work on the three B9 one, I just had 5G-XPOL-1-V2-41 delivered and changed to used the antenna switch in the hub settings and saw the signal strength go from the 90's down to low as 77, but still need to find a good position for it.

Correct - the TS9 connectors are for 5G only. You could try and flash your MC801a with another firmware (guides early on in this thread) but there's a risk you ruin the unit.

That's very interesting! How do you enable it?
