ZTE MC801A slow LAN speeds

Hi,

I installed the new ZTE MC801A router from Three. When I tested the LAN speeds, I notice that the speeds are very low. I am getting speeds between 50Mpbs and 100Mbps.

Funny enough, the Internet is working fine and I am getting the speeds I was getting on my old router.

I even split the WIFI between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, the LAN speeds are still the same.

Does anyone happen to have the same issue? Please tell me the LAN port is 1G, not 100M :)

Regards,

Do a speed test between 2 hosts in your network, either connected on cable and also with 2 connected wifi, to be thorough. Perhaps use iperf3 or some frontend for it.

But by the sounds of it, that's what your lte uplink speed is. :)

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did a test speed between two computers which are connected via cable using iperf3. Also, did a test speed between my laptop and one of the computers I was using before. Both gave me the same results. I use the OpenSpeedTest container, to test local speeds. Same results, it doesn't go above 100Mbps. What is interesting, I have another Wifi AP in my house, an Unifi controller device. When I connect to that WIFI the LAN speed goes above 100Mbps, and it reaches 150Mbps.

There's definitely a limitation on the local network from this router. This morning I change the router back to my old Huawei router and everything is back to normal.

The reason I change the router is that recently I found that when I download games from Xbox the internet dies and I have to reboot my router. This is annoying, to be honest, I tried speaking with Three support but had no luck, they BS me that I didn't activate my new sim card when I received the new router.

I think for now I will go back to my old router until I find a solution for my Xbox. Is not like I am downloading games all the time, is just annoying that I have to reboot my router every time I download a game.

Do you know what the link speed is when your connected via ethernet on said pc? if you open network setting if you are using windows, it should say something like 1Gbps

On my Huawei router, the local test speed is between 700-900Mbps. But on the ZTE router, the speed is up to 100Mbps. I tested across all devices, and with the same results, wifi, and LAN nothing changes with the ZTE router.

I don't use Windows, all my devices are on Linux. I think there's a limitation on the router, something is not configured inside the router that is limiting the LAN speeds. The internet speeds work very well, which I was surprised to see.

Honestly, there's always something with these Three routers. I am trying to look for a better one, an unlocked router, and replace the one from Three. The only issue is that costs a lot of money.

Mine works fine on LAN, 900 meg and I didn't change anything in settings except to enable UPNP and disable re-boots and updates. Three force updates anyway. Delighted with mine after 4 / 5 months on Three...no issues though position is key...turn it at an angle of 90 degrees to the pole and move it around slightly....in a windowsill. Even 5cms can make a big difference as the internal antenna is small but sensitive.

Thanks for your input. You are right, changing the router makes a big difference. Although in this instance the issue is not about the position of the router. I have my router next to the window from the day I install it.
I have an ethernet cable connected to my switch. When I run the tests I used the cable connection and WIFI, same results on both.

I went back to my old router. Is too much hassle to be honest with you, when support is so crap I rather just switch back to the old router until I find a better solution. The old router works fine, I get the speeds I want.

Same issue here :(

My network is made of [ZTE - gigabit switch - 2 desktop computers] and [ZTE - wifi devices]. All of the computers get very fast 5G speed (about gigabit), I can transfer files between the two desktop computers at gigabit speed, but transfering between a desktop and a wifi device is very slow (about 100mbps at best).

It would be faster if I went through the 5G than the local network (but my quota would be wasted).

I guess that getting a wifi access point, connecting it to the switch, and disabling the ZTE wifi would be the best workaround.
