ZTE MC888 expriments

Thanks, I know that now. :)

Is it possible to set the APN manually on the MC888? I can't find it anywhere in my menus. I'm wondering if this is because the Smarty SIM is overriding it or if it's just not there? I am thinking about buying one of the Scancom pre-pay Three SIMs, and it looks like you might need to change the APN to decide whether you get restricted to 120Mbit/s or not. It would suck a bit if I bought one and got stuck with the default APN, as I'm sure I'd want to use whichever one wasn't the default...

Edit: OK, I found it - it's under the (non-advanced) "Settings" in the middle of the "My router" circle on the web GUI home page.

You can use "flymetothemoon" as your Smarty APN, and it will not make any difference. Smarty ignores whatever APN you have setup and forces you to use their default.

Three allows you to change your APN.

Hello,
I'm plying last couple of days with MC888 (FW: BD_UGBGRMC888V1.0.0B09) from local ISP VIVACOM (Bulgaria). I have no access to super admin. Is there a way to get that password somehow? The router is working fine but I recently moved to a place with poor 5G coverage and I want to fine tune it if possible. I have a data plan from another carrier but it seems the router is locked and I would be able to get the unlock key once my contract has expired. Is there any other legit way to unlock it earlier? Is it possible to flash it with other firmware without all these restrictions, to have ssh etc?

Anyway I spent some days last month on MC888Ultra. I was able to de-brand VFDE/ES version into Livewire successfully, make it works as expected and had also VoLTE enabled (while VF firmware had this feature disabled)

As I’ve said in the past, these unit has secure boot enabled, and all signed partition (like sbl, qhee and others) cannot be swapped because the signature will not match the one into PBL. So they can be “de-branded”, but no way to get FOTA, because as ZTE has engineered the process, you will not have a full 1:1 partition mapping, so the incremental OTA will always fail.

I own a MC888Pro, software version: CR_ABPLMC888PROV1.0.0B01
Since I purchased it at the beginning of 2023, it has never updated.
I have a Fastweb sim with 5G (it relies on Wind3) and initially the modem aggregated the bands and always connected to 5G. Now, even if it is in the same position, it remains fixed in LTE, even though the repeater to which it connects is always the same with 5G DSS and bands B7, B1, B3, B20, N3.
I also tried to reset it and reconfigure it, but nothing changed and in the connection info it always reports “CA - Inactive” and never connects to the 5G signal.
There is another repeater a little further away in which the N78 cell is also active, but I can't get it to connect to that one, rather than to the closest repeater.
In the advanced settings, on “Antenna Mode” I have to leave it set to “Automatic”, otherwise if I set it to “Manual” the values on RX1 and RX2 remain on “Directional”; if I try to set “Omnidirectional” the settings are never applied and the loading circle remains in a loop.

Finally, in addition to all the bugs and software limitations of this ZTE, it is not even possible to set the DNS servers.
In the meantime I would like to know which build the “CR_” version is and then if there is some update that can be done (since nothing OTA has ever arrived) and unlock the potential of this hyper-castrated modem.

Thanks in advance

You can't/won't unless its 5G SA.

Cell Id is only available for the control plane primary carrier (PCC), which for NSA is the 4G PCC as 5G is, effectively, acting as an aggregated carrier (data plane).
It's the same with 4G, you don't see the aggregated SCC Cell Ids.

I can access that page. I'll give it a try, thanks. By the way, I found out that there seems to be quite a few hidden pages like that one, is there a way to list them? If not, how do people posting some of those urls in forums know about them? I haven't been able to find an official documentation about those pages either.
I haven't found any way to view the logs in the UI, but can download logs on my unlocked 3 branded MC888 by navigating to Advanced Settings > Others > Keylog and clicking Export - it downloads a zip file and key.log is the file you want.
