ZTE MC888 expriments

I'm working to modify TTL for this device, but i can't access ADB, some have a solution to get adb or shell access on this device please?
I want to take a dump also.

Thank you

I have a Three UK Branded ZTE MC888 which never updates and is stuck on 4g+, is there any way to update it manually or through adb? Would that work?

Thanks

TL;DR: I think specifying an EARFCN of 10220 in the cell lock for an MC888 causes it to lock up on power up if the SIM is present, and you have to factory reset to fix this. This is with firmware BD_H3GUKMC888V1.0.0B02. The unit is supposedly unlocked but I haven't been able to test that.

I've been having some trouble with my new SMARTY 5G - it worked great for the first couple of days, then downgraded to *really* slow 4G (<2Mbit/s download), so I started playing around with band and cell locking. I have been able to get decent 5G speeds with cell locking, though I'd like to see the "default" connection start working on 5G again - no idea if it's the router or Three as I have no other 5G device to test with.

Anyway I was playing around with some different cell locks and I put in an EARFCN of 10220 (band 32), because why not? I actually knew that this was a downlink only band (according to Mast Database anyway) and thus probably not sensible to specify for the cell lock, but I thought I'd try anyway. Normally I just get limited service/red network light when I use a bad PCI/EARFCN combination. I clicked apply and then restart and the router restarted, the power light came on for a few seconds and then all the lights went off including the power light and I couldn't connect to the web GUI either.

I tried physically disconnecting the power cord and reconnecting it and it did the same thing - white power light for a few seconds, then apparently dead.

I took the SIM out and it would then start up and let me into the web GUI, but I couldn't alter the cell lock as the network debug screen wouldn't come up without a SIM. I tried inserting the SIM while the router was powered on but it did the same "all lights go out" thing.

I was able to fix this by restarting without the SIM and doing a factory reset from the web GUI, but it was squeaky bum time there for a while.

I have not tried to reproduce this, but I thought it might be of interest. No responsibility taken if you brick your device experimenting with t

Hi there, i can help you with the unlock.

Hello Tech Bro,
I have the same router as of nevenko
MC888 (FW: BD_UGBGRMC888V1.0.0B09) from local ISP VIVACOM (Bulgaria), can yo
The same case it's locked only for Vivacom network SIM cards and I need to use it with another provider company. If you have time can you tell me how I can unlock the device ? Or install a firmware without all these restriction.
Thank you in advance.

If anyone is interested, my MC888 upgraded OTA from firmware
BD_H3GUKMC888V1.0.0B02 to
BD_H3GUKMC888V1.0.0B09 overnight. This is the first upgrade it's received since I bought it back in June second-hand (and theoretically unlocked, but I haven't been able to test this) from CEX. I have a Scancom Three SIM in it. The unit has a Three logo on the case FWIW.

I just logged into the router GUI and got an "Updated successfully!" pop up, but I actually noticed because the router statistics I've been logging appear to have started populating the lte_multi_ca_scell_sig_info statistic for the first time and it broke my analysis script.

Looking at the GUI, there might be a new "Parental Control" icon on the home page along with the existing "Suggested Position", "Data Usage", "Advanced Settings" and "SMS" icons, but I might just be forgetting that was there all along.

I haven't noticed any obvious changes apart from these. It's early days but the router does superficially seem to be working fine.

TBH I'm slightly disconcerted about this. It is good to be getting updates as presumably this will include any security fixes, but it also means that someone (presumably Three?) could decide to screw the device up (e.g. by removing the cell lock feature - which they *haven't* done here, this is just an example of something I care about which I find vaguely plausible) at some point in the future and I'll have little to no comeback. But it is what it is, I guess.

Hi guys. Like someone else this thread. I’ve cell locked to B32 with MC888. Can’t reset it. Turns off about 10 seconds after turning on. Is this dead for ever?

I havent tried this myself but on another forum it was suggested when this happens try taking the sim card out and start it up a couple of times without the sim then re insert the sim and try a reset this seems to work for some

Thanks man. I will try this and get back to you. Doesn’t matter how insignificant the info may seem every little helps. Wife is furious because the rest of the house is now without internet so I am a desperate man 😂

Yeah no joy.

I'm really sorry to see this apparently didn't help - but upthread I did (almost) exactly the same thing, and taking the SIM card out did fix it. Are you sure you are factory resetting it correctly? I don't remember the details but I seem to think I had some struggles to manipulate the physical reset switch in the right ways at the right times. Maybe spend a bit more time doing every possible combinations of "press it"/"turn on"/"release it"/"hold it for X seconds" and/or try to find some explicit documentation?

Really desperate suggestion just on the offchance - have you tried putting a different SIM card in instead of powering on with no SIM in? Perhaps a dead SIM and/or a SIM for a different operator?

Hi Steve thanks for the suggestion mate, your original post is what brought me here! I have tried another sim, but yeah I’m not really sure if I have hard reset it or not because there is no clear set guide, I’ve sort of held for 10 seconds here and there so I will give a few more ways a go. Just bizarre that it would work for you but monumentally destroy mine! so I must be doing it wrong. I’ll keep you posted.

Have you tried the Miono Javascript hack?

Sorry to hear you're still in a hole and I hope someone can suggest something, but just for reference - my MC888 has cell/band locking support in its own menus and that's how I accidentally locked mine to band 32, I didn't use the Miononno JS hack. This difference between mine and yours might go some way to explaining why I got away with it and you haven't (yet).

I've not tried the Miononno hack yet and by the sounds of it I won't be either!

Yeah I mean, it must work for some but was very dodgy to me, auto changed my APN and set my device address to Argentina and stuff. But yeah would explain it. I’ve taken the whole thing apart now just trying to find the test points to see if I can’t fast boot it.

It’s funny you should say that as It was this script I used to cell lock and the reason I’m in this mess 😂
Lol, okay then. I think you can manually specify the bands you want. Did you try this? Just specify all the bands you need and save. Router modem should re-initialise and hopefully this could work.

Hi bud, yeah was aware, but as I’d got used to using the hack it was easier changing that way. But no the router is now in ZTE download mode so does not boot. Therefore no admin console I can’t connect or communicate with the device at all. I’ve taken it apart now and shorted the test points so that it is now in 9008 mode but now I need to find the software to reflash the device which I can’t seem to get anywhere. Pretty much a dead end at this point.

Message stich96, perhaps he could help.

Hello ! are you sure that everyone with A has the x65?

I prefer ZTE 888A ultra because 4x4 mimo!

I now also have a 4x4 mimo and 2x2 doesn't make much sense!!

So all mc888A and mc888A ultra have x65?

I wouldn't swap my x55 for x62 if only for x65!

is zte already stable 24/7 with mc888a and a ultra?

Because with WNC AF55 and Speedport Smart 4 everything has been running 24/7 for months without any interruptions!

Thanks

p.s. I can buy a mc888A for 85 euros and buy an A ultra for 130!
