ZTE MC888 (Three branded )

Hi all

After some discussion with a friend he pointed out the world of 5G routers and the monthly cost comparison to Virgin media.

So immediately I went about researching and watched a few reviews on YouTube. The ZTE mc888 caught my eye so within hours I rush to make an offer on a 3 Branded ZTE Mc888, Un/fortunately my offer was accepted and now there’s no turning back!

I was after advice on wether the 3 branded variant is stripped of any features and are they locked to three, which doesn’t bother me as there is a huge cellular site across the field from me owned by 3

Thanks in advance

I had the MC801A from Three. It looks visually identical as far as I can see but I don't know if there are any technical differences internally (I spent some time in the past trying to find out and am still none the wiser!)

Assuming they are the same, my 801A was Three branded but entirely unlocked to use other network SIMs with. The range of tools and features in the settings menu was quite extensive. They didn't really lock anything down. While it didn't give quite as much control as some other models like the ZyXEL NR5103 for example, it was still more than enough to play around with and configure in a way that should work well for your needs.

You'll have to do some experimenting with different networks to see which is best. Many Three cell sites are shared with EE for example - And one network is often faster than the other despite coming from the exact same tower.

I think it might be the addition on wifi 6? I did tests on my phone which is THREE. And speed vary but one test achieve over 300Mbps. Seller accepted £150 including postage, sadly after making offer I realised it in a contract with virgin until May 2024 🤣 so might sell it on after a play

How are you finding the router so far?
How's the performance?

Was it locked?

Thanks!
