Just to show that there are exceptions to every rule, I have no line of sight but a (very) directional antenna gives the best results.
Extending antenna cables is generally a bad idea. Ideally, they should be as short as possible. Otherwise, you risk losing anything you have gained with the antenna along the cable and connections.
Better still, site the router outside in a weatherproof housing.
