ZTE MF286D Router + UDP torrents

Hi there.

I have a ZTE 4G+ router that I'm having trouble downloading torrents though. The Torrent app suggests UDP is being blocked. I can download using the same Three SIM in an older TP-Link 4G router just fine, but as its only a CAT 4 its quite slow.

From the research I have done, people suggested port forwarding TCP/UDP - this may work if the clients have static IPs but there are a number of clients on DHCP. I have even turned off the Firewall but made no difference.

Bit of a head scratcher as I'm sure the ZTE router shoud be able to deal with UDP Torrent traffic.

What APN are you using on the two routers?
"3internet" will give you a public IP address, whereas "three.co.uk" will give you a private CGNAT IP address.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply. I am on 3internet (Fell into the APN trap before).

As a test I installed libretorrent on my pixel and the torrents work on that, so installed it on my chromebook and all ok. JSTorrent still stubbonly refuses to "kickoff" the download on my chromebook. So it seems its the client.

Also got a peak download at 90 MB/s out of the ZTE during the night, settling at an overage of 35-40MB/s, not bad for a LTE connection - happy days

Thanks for pointing that out. I know fell for that a while ago when I had my Huawei B535, as a side note with the B535 its advisable to stick to IP4 only as some secure apps like banking Apps wont work if IP4 and IP6 is enabled. Learn't that the hard way also ;)
