ZTE MU5002 Firmware Flash/Update.

Hi All, Absolutely rookie here. I have been given a brand new ZTE MU5002 as a gift, it is unlocked to all SIM and it is branded as STC from Kuwait.

The firmware version is as attached.

On EE it works fine however It sometime reboots for some reasons. The MAX download I have received is 130mbps.
One Three it works fine with no reboot detected so far. The MAX download I have received is 200mbps.

I suspect that the firmware is somewhat limited version. Having searched through and some Russian website, it appears that no one has release any firmware for this device to be publicly available online. I am planning to extract the firmware and make it available in future. Furthermore I will take many screenshots of the web GUI and upload it here tonight for your info.

My question is, has anyone attempted to replace the firmware on the MU5001/2? if yes, how was your experience and what is your suggestions.

Thanks all.

I forgot to mention, I can not update the device via web GUI and I suspect that I need to have a STC Kuwait sim in the router in order to get an update.

Has anyone got global/international version of the ZTE Mu5001/2?
- if yes, are firmware updates available via web GUI?
- If no, has anyone attempted a different European ROM/Firmware?

Hi altharic, the hack does work! however I don't think that it is revealing all the hidden options. To start with Bridge mode is not available.

Sorry for the image quality, there is a 120KB restriction here. I will dropbox all images later. Since this MU5002 is a rare router in UK, I am hoping that this discussion will attract many inputs.

You might find that a lot of the hacks for the zte routers work on this I found that the ones for the mc801a and the mu5001 worked as they have similar hardware.

also look for zte-interface 1.0.0.exe this lets you access the firmware as zte intended so you can see the hidden options including the bands etc.

Thank you for your input,

http://192.168.0.1/index.html#ant_switch does not return display anything other than the router's main page.

And https://10.254.254.1/index.html#debug_page only returns the following page:

PS No Service Restart Set

With restart switch having two radio buttons, an both are not selected, enable and disable.

To tinker with this router, I first need to ascertain whether the firmware, Qnc and NVRAM can be fully backed up?

Altharic I have just downloaded zte-interface 1.0.0.exe, do I simply remove the sim, disconnect ethernet, connect the router to Windows via USB and run the app?

From what I have seen from the zte-interface, almost every single band both 4g and 5g is available to play around. The question is would I be able to save my chosen band using the zte-interface permanately? Please have a look at the screenshots if you come across anything interesting please me know. To start with there was band N2hundred and fifty something!

Download Z Tool to put your MU5001 or similar device into bridge mode.

See post 95 here (in Greek)

Hi Doofus, Thank you for the update. I have gathered that the router appears to have all the settings available albeit hidden. I am intending to extract the firmware from the router and keep a copy of it. Currently I am reading about and learning how to backup NVRAM, Firmware and QCN file.

Hi Davoodoo69,

I have the MU 5001 and not a techie. How do you flash the MC801 firware on this and access all the menu systems GUI so that I can lock 5G bands?

Thanks

I would like to ask a question.

I have purchased the Mu 5001 second hand and it came with some aerials. It appears the aerials on the mu5001 while connected to either 5g or 4g doesnt make a difference at all to signal or speed strength.

Heres some information

http://192.168.0.1/index.html#home

3G/4G Frequency99
3G/4G Connected Band10.0MHz@2100(B1) + 15.0MHz@1800(B3) + 10.0MHz@AC700(B28)
3G/4G Signal Strength-104 dBm
3G/4G ECIO/SINR-1.8 dB
3G/4G PCI97
3G/4G Cell ID13388360
4G CA StatusCA Inactive
5G Frequency641376
5G Connected BandN78
5G Signal Strength-105 dBm
5G SINR12.0 dB
5G PCI784

I am getting speeds of around 280-320 Mbps sitting on the window sill without any aerials connected what so ever. The signal bar is at 2 bar. Sometimes it pops up to three bars but never steady. My area is horrendous for signal indoors it seems and we are next to a spot on the map where theres no covereage at all.

I am just wondering why the antennas or aerials arent working with the device. Are they 4g antennas who knows, is the unit not working properly who knows. It was second hand and purhcased on ebay and the person stated he has never had any issues and never used the antennas (aerials) as he never needed to . I asked did they come with the unit he said yes.

I have tried going into the debug window and only granted with 1 option I think it was a PSC reset enable or disable. I have seen others on youtube with loads of settings for band 1 all the way up and also seen something relating to antennas. Maybe mine ar locked or disabled i dont know.

If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great.

Its the ZTE MU5001 Unlocked.

Cheers guys appreciate it
