Zzzoom is outsourcing it's build

There was some noise around Virgin and CityFibre recently, too - I think those will eventually end up combined, and most of the little altnets like Zzoomm will become part of CityFibre/Virgin or combine into a single non-CF altnet.

I'm old enough to remember Digital Region in the Sheffield area - it was an early FTTC network and went bust mainly because Openreach rolled out FTTC in the same areas and was easier to sign up to (I recall Digital Region was an absolute pain to get connected to, it took months). Their main asset wasn't a customer base (because they barely had one) but fibre in the ground, which got sold to (I think) Zayo for business and infrastructure use.

The same is true of these small altnets - Zzoomm is a minnow, its customer base won't be worth a great deal and its brand is worthless, but its physical fibre in the ground will at some point be valuable to a larger operator.
Agree that brand wise altnets don’t have much yet but customer base is very important. It’s not the same to buy a 100k served houses network with 10k customers (10% penetration) than with 30k customers (30% penetration). ARPU (average revenue per user) is very important too as we all know that for most FTTP networks all speed plans cost pretty much the same. It’s also important to know how old the network is (as that impacts penetratio) and how many other networks serve in the same areal your collapsed altnet serves (overbuild) and what overlap there is with the buying network. So it’s not as simple as you make it...

Doesnt bode well, only a very small part of build done and looking like they already out of cash.

My current address has the choice of Openreach FTTP, CityFibre FTTP and Virgin "Gig1" - is this particularly uncommon?

If I won big on the lottery, I'd move to a house with sea views. But if I won moderately on the lottery, I'd get all three and bond them just for a laugh.
Well VM currently isnt FTTP to be fair so you got two FTTP providers, which I think isnt that uncommon.

My address has no FTTP currently but CF is about to go live, OR isnt planned.

thast a shame, having alternatives seems to be a good thing, I live in North Yorkshire, and it seems like the Hull based fttp will be moving upwards a little bit KCOM?
this is back in Sept 22, https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...p-broadband-rollout-to-2-yorkshire-areas.html and still not seen/heard anything =-/ there prices arent that good when compared to virgin, and when I checked yesterday virgins prices for my area, "new network" went down? 1gig was £50 from £62, standard rate no special deal. I've always known 1gig to be £62 out of contract.

its £30 for 6 months then £50
or
£45 /mo with no discounts??....

this just seems weird, When I check HFC areas, they have the same deal?? minus the £45/mo

If we're going down the "let's sit here correcting each other in lieu of conversation" road, you'll note that my post said
Openreach FTTP, CityFibre FTTP and Virgin "Gig1"
I described Openreach and CityFibre as FTTP and didn't describe Virgin as FTTP. I get tired of forums a lot, because so many of the interactions seem to be people pedantically trying to one-up and correct each other's posts.

I was in my parents' home town recently, where Zzoomm is building out, and noticed that there were lots and lots of men staring into holes whose vans were liveried with "OG COMMS". Presumably this is the outfit to whom the build is being outsourced.

Sounds like the opening of a sci-fi film or a typical Friday night, but can't decide which.
