- ADSL Microfilter (aka – Splitter)

These are essential little boxes of hardware that split your phone line into two sockets, one for voice and the other for ADSL. Ideally you should have one of these boxes for every related phone line in the house. The picture below should be fairly self-explanatory.

Recommendations

Having read all of the above you should now be able to form a rough idea of the broadband ADSL service you’re looking for, remembering to take extra special note of usage restrictions and contract length.

Typically there are many strong providers worth considering, such as Zen, Eclipse, NDO (Namesco), Nildram, Firenet and FireFly to name but a few. Please remember that ISP quality changes like the wind, hence you should always research an ISP (search related forum posts, reviews and news items etc.) before accepting it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By way of a final note, we’d strongly recommend caution surrounding the choice of a larger ISP or those that have had serious problems several times in the recent past (e.g. Tiscali). Even the best ISP’s suffer problems now and then, but some more than others.

Larger providers typically seem to lose sight of individual customers, usually falling behind in support and their ability to resolve more localised problems.

Finally, we hope this guide has been useful and helps you to make a more informed choice.
