All of the questions and answers have
been obtained from the Net4Nowt
chat with Steve Redfern.
1. If I use VD constantly 24/7 will I get in trouble for abuse?
No, VD allows users
to stay on-line as long as they like. You will be not be in trouble for
abuse, just for staying on-line. The connection would have to stay
active (20 Minutes). It really depends on what you use it for, if we see
a user staying on 24/7 of course we will see what you are doing, if you
re-loading a web site every three minutes then we will class this as
abuse.
2. How much will it cost?
£74.99 a year plus a £24.99 set up fee. You can also pay £25.50 quarterly
although it will be slightly more
3. Who's providing the bandwidth?
UUNet.
4. Your company offers 24/7 internet access for an annual fee of £74.99,
with a setup fee of £24.99. RedHotAnt is providing a similar service
for about half the price. How are you going to beat this offer? And, how
are you going to pay the phone bills with such a small fee?
We will be providing a much more reliable service
than RHA.
5. How can you be sure that your system will not crash or become slow.
Because we have
tested the service using 500,000 virtual customers. By using Virtual
Customers we basically attempted to connect 500,000 virtual modems to
our service and tested the performance.
6. Do you have any future plans for ADSL or cable modems?
We do have future
plans for cable modem as well as ADSL.
7. What will be your modem/user ratio?
We have over
400,000 modems (Our modems can take up to two members at a time,
depending on the speed they are connecting at) and a maximum of 500,000
users. We have more lines than we do customers at present.
8. Will you provide webspace to
customers?
We do offer 20MB of
web space
9. Will you offer your customers a domain name? If so how much will it
be?
Yes, you can set up
a domain with us. It will cost £10.99 for a .com or .co.uk domain and
includes hosting.

10. If the system crashes will you be prepared to compensate?
If a problem causes a few
customers any inconvenience
then we will compensate. If
the system crashes, we will simply re-launch the service and probably
offer a partial refund on the set up fee. If the system crashes we will
re-launch after sorting out the problem.
11. What do you hope for the future of VD?
We estimate over 1.5
million users at the minimum in a years time. However we expect it to
run at a loss for the first few years of service. 90% of all UK ISP's
are currently running at a loss.
12. Do you plan to introduce a cut off period?
We have no plans to introduce a cut off time.
13. Do you intend
to have game servers or a chat service?
Yes, We will have Games Servers. We have no plans
on a chat service at present.
14. Do you offer student discounts?
Student Discounts were something that came up a while back, we did
consider and
may re-consider in the future. However at current we are not offering
any student discounts.
15. What bandwidth
do you have at the server location?
A T3 connection (43Mbps). But we are using some 550mbit bandwidth as
well.
16. Can you pay monthly?
We may be able to accept quarterly payments from you, but not monthly.
17. Will you offer an 0845 service?
Yes, We will
offer an alternative 0845 number if you experience any problems with the
0800 service.
18. Will you be offering competitions like
Bt Internet's £1 million pounds?
We offer competitions for holidays etc, no cash prizes as a lot of our
members are under 18.
19. Do you intend to stop registrations if
your network becomes full?
Yes, we already have around 350,000 people signed up and this is since
earlier in the
week. I would predict
that we will stop new registrations before the launch date.
