A new provider called Cambridge Fibre Networks, which doesn’t yet appear to have a website, has applied to Ofcom for Code Powers in order to help it construct a new multi-Gigabit speed “full fibre” (FTTH/P) broadband network for homes and businesses around the East and West of Cambridge.

A further 150 businesses in the South Fengate part of Peterborough (Cambridgeshire, UK) can now access a 1Gbps capable connection, which comes after Cityfibre completed the 4km extension of their existing c.120km fibre optic Ethernet and broadband network in the cathedral city.

The Cambridgeshire County Council has announced the completion of their Phase 2 Broadband Delivery UK contract with Openreach (BT), which has successfully expanded the coverage of FTTC/P based fixed line “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) networks to 95% of local premises by the end of 2017.

The Connecting Cambridgeshire project, which is currently helping to extend “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) coverage to 99% of homes and businesses in the county by the end of 2020, has setup a new online survey in the hope that local businesses can help them to spot any remaining gaps in coverage.

Telecoms operator BT has revealed the technical capabilities for their forthcoming pilot of “ultrafast” 300-500Mbps G.fast technology (consumer ISP products should start at 160Mbps), which will be rolled out to cover 25,000 premises in Cambridgeshire and Kent this summer.
