Swedish fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network builder VXFIBER has today proposed to expand their operations in the UK by appointing the former manager of the South Yorkshire Broadband Programme, Natalie Ward, to be their Regional Account Manager for the Midlands and North of England.

A new open access fibre optic network operator called Fibrus has today been jointly established by b4b and entrepreneur Conal Henry in Northern Ireland. The operator plans to invest £100m+ over the next 5 years on improving business and residential connectivity, such as via a new Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network.

Cambridge, Leeds and Southend-on-Sea have today been named as the next 3 UK cities and towns to be covered via Cityfibre and Vodafone’s joint deployment of a new Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network by the end of 2021. The rollout is being supported by an investment of £171m.

Rural focused fibre optic ISP Gigaclear has this evening apologised after it admitted that their state aid supported roll-out of a new Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Devon and Somerset had suffered delays. As a result the deployment is now running “significantly behind schedule.”

PCCW Global Networks UK (formerly Keycom), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hong Kong telco HKT and is 63% owned by PCCW, plans to further invest in the UK by growing its fibre broadband (FTTP/B) business to supply large, multi-tenanted properties and multiple businesses that are in close proximity.

Trouble seems to be brewing in Maldon after councillors on the District Council’s Finance Committee were said to have voted unanimously to ask the full council to scrap its deal for helping to fund the roll-out of “superfast broadband” with Essex County Council, which would have contributed £45,000 to the effort.

The telecoms regulator has today published their latest Q2 2018 update to last year’s Connected Nations report, which uses more recent data from April 2018 to provide the latest coverage statistics for UK mobile and fixed line broadband networks. For example, “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage has risen to 5% (1.4 million premises).

The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral (Merseyside) in North West England will soon see their first premises being connected to Openreach’s (BT) new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) “ultrafast broadband” ISP network, which forms part of the operator’s phase one deployment plan.

Some 640 premises in Chilbolton and Goodworth Clatford can now access Virgin Media’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast broadband and TV network. These are among the first to benefit from a new community driven scheme that is extending the service to cover 12 villages in the Test and Dun Valleys of Hampshire.

The Rural Services Network and UK ISP Gigaclear have today joined others by calling on Ofcom to ensure that their forthcoming 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation (USO) for broadband will reflect the national plan for “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage, which the government hopes could reach universal coverage by 2033.

The CEO of cable broadband ISP WightFibre, John Irvine, has issued a short update on their £35m project to deploy a new 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to cover 53,000 of the 61,000 homes on the Isle of Wight (Hampshire) by the end of 2022.
