The state aid supported Superfast North Yorkshire (SNY) project, which with the help of BT seeks to make superfast broadband ISP services available to 100% of local homes and businesses by 2017 (90% by the end of 2014), has revealed that over 24,000 premises in 34 communities will be included in the first stages.

The North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has announced that its £70m Connecting North Yorkshire (CNY) project, which aims to make superfast broadband ISP services available to “100% of businesses and citizens … by 2017” (90% by 2015), has unsurprisingly been awarded to BT.

Residents living in the small North Yorkshire (England) fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay can now access broadband internet download speeds of around 10-12Mbps (Megabits per second). This is thanks to the launch of a community wifi network (The Bay Broadband Co-operative) that has been upgraded with help from NYnet and Defra’s Rural Development Programme (RDPE).

NYnet, a UK public sector controlled private limited company, has announced that the isolated rural North Yorkshire villages of Nun Monkton and Moor Monkton can now recieve faster broadband internet access. The effort is thanks to a mix funding coming from the community, local businesses, Defra’s Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and CLANNET.
