London-focused UK ISP Community Fibre has signed a new wayleave agreement with Sutton Council and the related Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP), which will enable their Gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to reach local residents in thousands of council-owned and private homes.

At present CF’s full fibre network already covers around 100,000 premises across London, which mostly consists of large apartment / social housing blocks and some business properties. Going forward the provider aims to cover more than 500,000 premises by the end of 2022 (some of this will be built outside of London).

Work to install the fibre cabling in Sutton is expected to start during early 2020 and it will then take 18-24 months to complete. As part of this agreement the ISP will also deliver free WiFi in communal areas of independent living schemes and council-owned community buildings.

Steve Tucker, MD of the Sutton Housing Partnership, said:

“This is great news for our residents and we are pleased to be working with the Council to deliver quality internet connections to homes which have been disadvantaged for too long.

Internet connectivity plays a key role in making sure people have access to services, local opportunities and for tackling social isolation. The improved coverage and the flexibility of choice to receive additional upgrades will be a huge boost to all residents in Sutton.

SHP will continue to work with Sutton Council to support this high-priority project.”

Packages on Community Fibre’s network tend to start at £20 per month for a symmetrical speed 50Mbps service with unlimited usage and a free router, which rises to just £50 for their top 920Mbps tier (average peak time speed).
