SES Satellite Service Renamed from ASTRA2Connect to SES Broadband

Worldwide satellite operator SES (ASTRA) has renamed its internet service subsidiary ASTRA Broadband Services and their familiar ASTRA2Connect product to SES Broadband Services and SES Broadband respectively. The new names are said to be “in line with SES’ new Corporate Identity“.

A number of satellite ISPs, including BeyonDSL in the UK, use the SES Broadband (formerly ASTRA2Connect) platform to deliver internet access speeds of up to 10Mbps around Europe, the Middle East and Africa from several satellites’ (ASTRA 2F, 2E and 2G).

Patrick Biewer, Managing Director of SES Broadband Services, said:

These include a unified service offering to customers across the globe. SES Broadband was introduced in 2007 and today claims to be “Europe’s largest satellite broadband network” with more than 80,000 subscribers. However it has strong competition from both Eutelsat (KA-SAT) and most recently Avanti (HYLAS 1).
