Mobile network operator 1p Mobile, which is a virtual network operator (MVNO) on EE’s UK platform, currently appears to be suffering from a significant and protracted outage of their website services. The situation also seems to be delaying the provider’s ability to activate new SIMs.
The outage, which appears to have started sometime last night, means that customers attempting to access 1p Mobile’s website are today being greeted by the somewhat generic “500 – Internal server error” message – a common HTTP notice that tends to cover a multitude of potential causes.
Initially we couldn’t find any service status messages about the situation from 1p via their social media channels, but after a bit of digging we did find this response to one of their customers. A 1p Mobile support agent said (9:09am): “Unfortunately our web servers crashed overnight. We currently do not know what has caused this however, we are working to have everything back up and running as soon as possible. If you are trying to top-up, you can still use our Top-up by Text method. If you send the word TOPUP to 07950014111 it will add £10 to your balance.”

UPDATE 3:09pm
Good news, the website appears to have just come back online.

1p mobile seem have issues with their server. Always down on their website time to time. Sorry 1p mobile this is not good enough. They should bring in new server up and running all times.
Everyone has outages, even Google believe it or not. Let’s give them some grace as things appear to have crashed hard on this occasion. They seem to be giving customers some grace by offering an interim £10 top up.
Same can’t be said about Vectone Mobile that suddenly went down with tens of thousands of numbers invalidated overnight. Not a peep from Ofcom.

I agree outages happen. I’m not sure how old the 1p servers are though, their site an app isn’t exactly the most modern.
Also that £10 isn’t them being nice. That’s an alternative of topping up.. you still spend your money
PayPal is working. I had to use it to buy me next boost
As a 1p Mobile user for just over 4 years I’ve never before had a problem reaching their website. Looks a serious problem if the site is still down after about 18 hours.
Being that this week is Microsoft’s patching week and they are running on Windows server, they’re probably using something which has been affected by a security patch.
If that is the case I would be asking why are they not patching on a private non-public server prior to patching production ones…
I read your comment and couldn’t believe they were actually doing that so checked. FFS you’re right! Not only are they using a Microsoft webserver, the site is full of Facebook and Google tracking cookies which appear to breach UKGDPR/GDPR!
I’m surprised the site ever worked and frankly it shouldn’t.
‘they are running on Windows server’
So probably strong-armed into a bunch of other MS services too. Condolences to the 1p mobile team.
I’ve just looked again now the site is back up…
It gets worse… They are running Server 2012 R2 on their public server…
Windows Server 2012 R2 entered end of life on October 10, 2023…
@Mark
Freeola have now launched their new packages – you might want to look if you are not already – ypure-mail address bounced so I couldn’t tell you that way – went live today I think
Working for me now
1p mobile do not have an “app service” I dunno where you got that from
Some of the customer feedback mentioned they couldn’t “get the app to work” either, but I think they might have been confusing a web browser icon for 1p mobile with an App.
