Netomnia Build FTTP Broadband Network in Cheetham Hill to 30,000 Premises

Alternative broadband network operator Netomnia (Substantial Group), which has deployed their own full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 3 million UK premises RFS (inc. 460,000 customers), have announced that their long-running deployment across the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester has now reached 30,000 premises (RFS).

The original deployment was first announced all the way back in November 2022 (here), which saw the operator proposing to invest £15.9 million in order to cover 53,000 homes and businesses in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester; at the time this was said to reflect an “initial phase” of work that was being supported by civil engineering contractor O’Connor Utilities.

NOTE: The Substantial Group is backed by £1.6bn+ of equity and debt from investors Advencap, DigitalBridge, and Soho Square Capital etc. Netomnia sells to consumers via retail ISP YouFibre (they also sell business-only packages via some third-party retail brands, such as Aquiss etc.).

Clearly Netomnia have now delivered a big chunk of the build plan for Cheetham Hill, although it’s unclear when they’ll reach completion. Regardless, build activity in the area is still said to be “ongoing“, with further premises expected to be enabled as rollout progresses.

Ian Kock, COO of Netomnia, said:

“Delivering 30,000 premises serviceable in Cheetham Hill highlights the importance of investing in resilient digital infrastructure within high-density urban communities. Expanding Full Fibre availability in areas like this ensures residents and businesses benefit from connectivity that can support evolving technologies, increasing data demand, and long-term digital transformation.”

The work forms part of Netomnia’s prior goal of reaching 5 million premises by the end of 2027 (inc. 1m customers by 2028), although their future plans are set to be impacted by the consolidation deal with nexfibre’s parents (here); assuming it gets the green light from regulators.
