Taiwan-based network manufacturer DrayTek is a familiar name in the UK broadband ISP world. Since 1997 they’ve been busy building various routers, switches, access points and modems. Suffice to say that we were keen to get their thoughts on the current market for such devices, as well as their plans for the future.

In a new interview the founder and chairman of UK ISP Zen Internet, Richard Tang, has called for the “fibre tax” to be scrapped in order to boost “full fibre” broadband and explains some of the problems of working with smaller altnet ISPs. On top of that he also warns about the difficulties of trying to regulate internet content.

Andrew Glover, Chair of the UK ISPA, has told ISPreview in a new interview that a no-deal Brexit could harm both the industry’s supply chain and access to a skilled workforce. Glover also warns that DNS over HTTPS (DoH) raises a “host of security concerns” and says “considerable regulatory change” is needed to hit full fibre targets.

The CEO of UK ISP ITS Technology, Daren Baythorpe, has told ISPreview.co.uk in a new interview that the UK’s push to switch-off old copper line broadband networks in favour of Gigabit speed “full fibre” (FTTP) presents both “opportunity and threat,” not least from the risk of enabling Openreach to “recreate a monopoly.”
