UK ISP Sky Broadband will later this morning launch a new 100Mbps “Full Fibre” plan to complement their existing packages, although it appears to be priced at the same level as their existing 145Mbps tier – this may raise a question mark over what that means for the existing package.

But its recommendations for broadband and mobile are wafer thin.

Ofcom has today published the latest edition of their forecast for Planned Network Deployments, which predicts that the full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP lines are on course to cover 91% (27 million premises) of all UK properties by May 2026 – rising to 94% for “gigabit-capable” networks (i.e. FTTP and Cable).

The Essex County Council (ECC) has announced that Openreach (BT) has officially completed their state aid supported Phase 4b contract under the Superfast Essex (SFE) project, which helped to extend gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband lines to another 3,559 premises in hard to reach rural areas.

Participants will also receive a £30 Amazon voucher on completion of the trial.

Sometimes, less is more, or at least that’s the idea behind BT (EE) and Nokia’s latest trials of 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology and devices at the operator’s Adastral Park site in Ipswich (England). RedCap is a technology introduced in 3GPP Release 17 that brings 5G to devices that do not require its full capabilities.

Aberdeen-based UK broadband and I.T solutions provider Internet for Business (IFB) has secured a new contract worth £300,000 that will see them support and deliver the rollout of a new full fibre network in the Scottish city, which aims to bring multi-gigabit speeds to 50 key Aberdeen City Council (ACC) education locations.
