Cityfibre Confirm Gigabit Fibre Optic Network for Leeds and Bradford

As expected Cityfibre has today confirmed that the two cities of Leeds and Bradford in Yorkshire (England) have become the latest to benefit from their ultrafast Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTP) broadband and Ethernet data network, which can connect local public sector and business sites.

It’s officially been two years since Cityfibre, Sky Broadband and TalkTalk announced their Joint Venture (here) to roll-out a new 940Mbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network across the city of York in England, but we’re still not clear when it will launch or whether it will progress beyond Phase One.

BT Build the Longest Continuous Stretch of Fibre Optic Cable in the UK

Openreach (BT) claims to have built the longest continuous stretch of fibre optic (spine) cable in the United Kingdom at 45 miles, which occurred as part of their Broadband East Riding project to reach 1,580 homes and businesses across a rural part of East Yorkshire.

FTTH Overtakes Cable as World Broadband Users Hit 751 Million

The total number of world broadband subscriptions reached 751.2 million at the end of last year, which is a quarterly Q4 2015 growth of around +1.31% (down from +1.4% in Q3 2015) and there are now more FTTH users worldwide than those using cable (e.g. Virgin Media) technologies.

France Adds Law to STOP Abuse of “Fibre Optic Broadband” in ISP Adverts

The French government has now officially introduced a new decree that makes it much more difficult for broadband ISPs to advertise their services using “fibre optic” terminology if the network doesn’t actually deliver a fibre cable to your home. If only the UK would follow suit.

WarwickNet Brings Superfast Broadband to 70 Stoneleigh Park Firms

Some 70 businesses on Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire can now access superfast broadband of up to 100Mbps, as well as Gigabit capable leased lines, after local ISP WarwickNet took over the management of the campus-wide network during 2013 and gave it a big upgrade.
