City focused UK fibre optic (FTTP/B) broadband ISP Hyperoptic has today claimed that their new-build installation teams have hit a 99% success rate for day-one connectivity in the last year, which means that residents moving into a new property enabled with their Gigabit speed capable service can get online within just 24 hours.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents both alternative broadband ISPs, has announced that they hope to “tackle” the challenge of ensuring that new build UK homes can all benefit from the latest gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks by conducting a dedicated seminar.

The Government’s £1.7bn publicly funded Broadband Delivery UK scheme, which has so far helped to extend “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) networks to 5,076,552 extra premises since 2013, has today published its latest take-up data to the end of 2018. The good news is it continues to grow and boost coverage.

Despite a recent delay to Gigaclear’s state aid supported contract with the Superfast Essex (SFE) project (here), the rural UK ISP has today confirmed that some of the first homes in Uttlesford to benefit from their new 900Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network have now gone live in Birchanger.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has announced that their “Fibre First” deployment of Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP technology has now covered over 1.2 million UK premises. On top of that they’ve confirmed the next batch of 12 UK areas that will start to benefit over the next 12 months.

Liberty Global, the owner of UK cable operator Virgin Media and one that has traditionally shunned the idea of providing true wholesale access to their ultrafast broadband network (a mix of hybrid fibre coax and full fibre FTTP), is now alleged by one newspaper’s sources to be reviewing the idea again.

A new batch of independent data has revealed that “full fibre” (FTTP) style ultrafast broadband ISP networks are now available to 2,047,954 premises and Openreach (BT)’s infrastructure accounts for half of those (1,003,094 premises). Meanwhile the national roll-out from all operators is continuing to ramp-up.

A new report from the House of Lords has claimed that digital connectivity in coastal areas is “largely insufficient,” while investment in mobile and broadband ISP infrastructure “lagged considerably behind” urban areas. As a result they want support for “ultra-fast broadband” to be the Government’s “highest priority.”

UK ISP Giganet (M12 Solutions) has said they’re in a prime position to offer the “best value” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast broadband service to “homes and businesses” in Salisbury, not least because they’ve invested in their own “dedicated equipment rack” in the local exchange (connected to its resilient London-core network).

Urban fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today signed a new multi-million pound order with HellermannTyton, which will supply them with key digital infrastructure to support their £2.5bn roll-out of a new Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network to 5 million UK premises by 2024.

The Plymouth City Council (PCC) has become the latest local authority to secure £3m of funding from the UK Government’s Local Full Fibre Networks (LFFN) project, which will result in a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) style ultrafast broadband network being deployed to connect 227 public sector sites (schools, council etc.).

Cable ISP Virgin Media has announced that, for the first time, they’ve officially expanded the coverage of their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast broadband and TV network to a further 2,000 premises in Pontyclun (South Wales) by using Openreach’s (BT) existing cable ducts.

The UK telecoms regulator has today set out more detail on how they intend to change market regulation in order to promote competition and investment in the roll-out of Gigabit capable “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP networks, which will support the Government’s ambition for “nationwide” FTTP coverage by 2033.

New customers of UK ISP BT can now get an included Google Home AI smart speaker (RRP £129) when they sign-up to one of the provider’s Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC), Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) or G.fast based broadband and phone packages. Reward cards (Preloaded MasterCard) valued between £30 to £120 are also included.

A new project, which is to be assisted by Cityfibre, Capita and £9.5m from the UK Government’s Local Full Fibre Networks (LFFN) programme, will result in a Gigabit speed fibre optic broadband network being built to connect 152 public sector sites (schools, council etc.) in the challenging highlands of Scotland.

Gigabit broadband ISP speeds will soon be on their way to all 129 properties in the remote rural Welsh village of Llancarfan (Vale of Glamorgan), which is thanks to a new co-funded Community Fibre Partnership (CFP) project with Openreach (BT). This is said to be the “largest full-fibre … deal of its kind in Wales.“
