Broadband ISP Grain Expanding UK Full Fibre Network in Loughborough

Alternative network operator and ISP Grain, which recently secured a major £225m funding boost (here), has announced a second expansion of their gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband network this week. The latest location to benefit from this is the Leicestershire (England) city of Loughborough.

CityFibre Begin Project Gigabit Broadband Build in Leicestershire and Warwickshire

Network operator CityFibre has today announced that they’ve begun the roll-out phase of their £77m state-aid supported Project Gigabit contract for the Leicestershire and Warwickshire (Lot 11) area. This will extend their 10Gbps capable FTTP broadband network to an additional 45,000 hard-to-reach rural premises in those regions.

Toob Extend FTTP Broadband to Cambridge, Luton, and Leicester UK

Hampshire-based network builder and ISP toob, which is rolling out a gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) network across parts of South England, has expanded their availability to include the Bedfordshire town of Luton, as well as the cities of Cambridge (Cambridgeshire) and Leicester (Leicestershire). But this will be via their partnership with Cityfibre (not own build).

Leicestershire UK’s GigaHubs Full Fibre Build Connects 43 Public Sites

The Leicestershire County Council (LCC) has revealed that their recently completed £1.5 million “GigaHubs” project has now connected 43 public sector sites (schools, libraries etc.) to a new gigabit-capable full fibre broadband network, which forms part of the UK Government’s wider £5bn Project Gigabit programme.

CityFibre has today secured another five of the UK government’s Project Gigabit broadband rollout contracts, totalling over £394m. The deals will spread their full fibre (FTTP) ISP network to over 202,000 hard to reach premises across parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Sussex, Kent, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire & Milton Keynes.

The Leicester Crown Court has sent one man to prison, with another facing an arrest warrant, after the pair were found to have posed as fake broadband ISP engineers in order to steal telecoms equipment from several storage containers, which belonged to Virgin Media (VMO2).

Cable operator Virgin Media UK has announced that 26,000 premises in Burton-on-Trent (East Staffordshire), Dronfield (Derbyshire), Thurmaston (Leicestershire) will be the next to get access to their “gigabit-ready” ultrafast broadband ISP and TV network (we still don’t know when those Gigabit speed will actually arrive).
