Hampshire-based network builder and ISP toob, which is rolling out a gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) network across parts of South England, has expanded their availability to include the Bedfordshire town of Luton, as well as the cities of Cambridge (Cambridgeshire) and Leicester (Leicestershire). But this will be via their partnership with Cityfibre (not own build).

The Leicestershire County Council (LCC) has revealed that their recently completed £1.5 million “GigaHubs” project has now connected 43 public sector sites (schools, libraries etc.) to a new gigabit-capable full fibre broadband network, which forms part of the UK Government’s wider £5bn Project Gigabit programme.

After some false starts earlier in the year, at least some residents and businesses in the Leicestershire (England) market town of Loughborough should finally be able to connect to CityFibre’s new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the area after it started to go fully live.

CityFibre has today secured another five of the UK government’s Project Gigabit broadband rollout contracts, totalling over £394m. The deals will spread their full fibre (FTTP) ISP network to over 202,000 hard to reach premises across parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Sussex, Kent, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire & Milton Keynes.

CityFibre has announced that they’ve started the construction phase of their £17 million project to rollout a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover “almost every home and business” in the Leicestershire (England) market town of Loughborough.

Cityfibre has today revealed that they’ll invest £17 million over the next few years to ensure that “almost every home and business” in the Leicestershire (England) market town of Loughborough is covered by their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network.

The Leicester Crown Court has sent one man to prison, with another facing an arrest warrant, after the pair were found to have posed as fake broadband ISP engineers in order to steal telecoms equipment from several storage containers, which belonged to Virgin Media (VMO2).

UK ISP Grain has today announced that their ongoing rollout of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network is being extended to include an unspecified number of homes in the city of Leicester (Leicestershire, England), which has a population of around 360,000.

UK ISP TalkTalk has confirmed that their new CityFibre and Openreach based Future Fibre packages, which offer top broadband speeds of up to 500Mbps via Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology, have been extended to homes in the cities of Cambridge, Stirling, Leicester and Leeds – provided you’re within reach of the network.

The Superfast Leicestershire project in England has secured a small pot of £100,000 in extra funding to help the scheme spread “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) further, although the details remain unclear. Meanwhile the East Leicestershire contract for Phase 3 has been re-tendered “as no credible bids were received.”

Cable operator Virgin Media UK has announced that 26,000 premises in Burton-on-Trent (East Staffordshire), Dronfield (Derbyshire), Thurmaston (Leicestershire) will be the next to get access to their “gigabit-ready” ultrafast broadband ISP and TV network (we still don’t know when those Gigabit speed will actually arrive).
