The Liverpool Crown Court has sentenced Michael Whitty (47) to three years in prison after he set fire to one of Vodafone UK’s 4G masts in Kirkby on 5th April 2020, which caused damage estimated to be worth up to £15,000. Whitty’s action was fuelled by a bonkers conspiracy theory that links the spread of COVID-19 to 5G.

UK ISP FACTCO (Fibre & Communication Technology Company) has announced that they’ve extended their 10Gbps capable “full fibre” network to cover all of the 180+ businesses (c.600 staff) in the Baltic Creative CIC, which is situated within Liverpool’s (Merseyside) Baltic Triangle area and is supported by the Government’s voucher scheme.

British Fibre Networks, which launched earlier this year (here) with an aspiration to build a new open access 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network to serve over 35% of UK new build homes by 2020, has now begun its first deployment on an apartment block in North Wales, for LW Group.

The not-for-profit Liverpool Internet Exchange (IX Liverpool) and ISP Baltic Broadband have collaborated in order to deploy a new 10Gbps fibre optic link into the Baltic Triangle development area, which is home to lots of businesses central Liverpool (Merseyside).

The joint Merseyside Connected project with Openreach (BT) has today announced that an additional 3,000 homes and businesses in the region will be put within reach of an FTTC/P based “fibre broadband” network by the end of 2018, which is thanks to a £2 million reinvestment (clawback) boost.

The Merseyside Connected project, which since 2013 has been working with Openreach (BT) to expand “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) to 98% of local homes and businesses in Merseyside by the end of July 2016 (note: 90% covered by 24Mbps+ speeds), now looks set to complete its contract in September 2016.
